335D Ticking high freq noise from engine
Hello!
My 335D has a strange sound coming from the vacumpump area. The sound is pretty high up in frequency and clear. I was thinking of timing chain noise but it sounds so clear. Not like its hitting something. Maybe it can be the chain tensioner that connects the two camshafts? Sorry about the rust and corrosion in the engine bay. New project car and everything will be sorted later. |

I just realized that the sound is only present when the engine is fully warmed up.
Here is a video showing the same thing but with cold engine. Noise is not present? |

Vacuum pump would be my first guess, too. Never heard it make such a sound and can't think of a reason why it should when it is warm only.
Do you have a stethoscope or long screwdriver? That might help you to locate the source of the sound better. |

Here, the article implies that the valve train can be a likely candidate: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars...gine-16705321/
Here, the solution was that there wasn't enough oil/the oil level sensor stopped working: Not sure what a defective vacuum pump would sound like. PL |
