Software/Firmware Updates
Went to the dealership today for an oil change. Car was sold in Feb2007, so build was sometime prior.
Since this is the first trip to the dealer, I asked them to upgrade all the firmware to the latest version. The gentlemen spent 3+ minutes explaining how there is no such thing as a software upgrade in the 335's (only in the 5's, 6's and 7's), and one would only occur in a 3 series if they swapped a component that needed a new firmware (ie ECU, CD player, etc). I am asked him what version my car is running and he said he cannot tell - - only the OBD machine can, when it's connected. Also asked him for the paperwork - - said it takes too long, so he'll mail it. The firmware bit doesnt right, does it? 2007 335i coupe, no idrive #2 - Oil Cooler - He also confirmed I don't have the oil cooler, so I will be calling BMWNA. #3 - Squeeky Driver Seat - claimed fixed, but still wasn't. Dealer offered to order new bottom bracket seat mount and motor for replacement. #4 RR tailight code - bulb was fine, contact was a bit loose. Second time it happened, we'll see if it becomes systemic. |

we cant just update your software unless you have a complaint which calls for a programming update, a module replacement, a recall for programming, or a retrofit of something that didnt come from the factory(ie ipod, or alarm, etc)
hope that helps..but yea your SA is telling you some BS haha...all BMWs have updates...only way to check what versions you ahve is to hook it up see..there really isnt any "paperwork" that i beleive the dealer actually gives to the public about what we program...its all internal BMW stuff... |

hm, so if i get the 6fl for my 06 325, there's a good chance they'll have to progman update too? so much hassle to get them to even admit that my software is out of date. they always claim it's up to date, but can never tell me what version i have. lol.

March 07 build here and no iDrive. I went in for service last week and there was an update for my car. Dealer said it was a recall.

yea see recalls we can do..i just did one on an 06 m5 yesterday...therefore we program and encode the whole car...but if theres no recall..no problem that the fix is to program..no module replacement..we dont program...now if you wanted to pay for it the dealer may allow you to do that but its expensive..

ahh, lol. i think i was confused also. 6fl is the factory optioned ipod/usb interface, but i dont think it's currently retrofittable, which made my question retarded and moot. sorryz

This is not a freaking PC. There is NO/ZERO/NADDA reason to update your car if you're not experiencing any problems that were addressed in the updates. You are NOT entitled to updates willy-nilly. If u want to update something, go update the BIOS on your home PC. Gimmie a break..some people.

One question, does having the stereo replaced require the car to be reprogrammed or just the stereo it self? Will my remap be overwritten during this procedure?
