Cabin air filter cover threads stripped? I have what you need.

If anyone has stripped threads for the 6 screws that hold the cabin air filter cover on and they are thinking of fixing the problem using this method:

I have the bolts and inserts that you need. These bolts have the same 8mm head as the stock screws so they look great and you can replace just as many as you need. You will still only need one tool to remove the cabin air filter cover. Just drill out the hole with a 1/4 inch bit, add a little glue if you want, and tap in the insert. These bolts are 12 mm long.

I have about 20 available. I'm not trying to make money, just recoup some of my costs since I had to buy 25 inserts and 45 bolts. So a buck apiece, for each bolt/insert combined and maybe another buck for shipping. Just send me a PM. Sorry for the gigantic pics.

Has anyone tried the approach of just using s slightly larger diameter self-tapping screw? Admittedly, this approach is not quite as elegant as what is suggested by the OP. Any thoughts pro or con?

I have, actually, the new bolts BMW sell for the micro filter housing are coarser, shorter and now a T25 head.

That said, 3 still eventually stripped out. But using JB weld in the hole (credit to feuer has worked pretty damn well.
