Port Clean at A1BN

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to do a quick write up of my Port Clean experience at A1BN in Stevenage.

A port clean was on my list of things to do this year, however after having fitted RB silicone inlets I had contacted Trebila for a custom tune...whilst setting up my car he noticed that trims went out of balance between banks when meth was injected (trims stayed equal when going WOT without meth)
Tried a couples of things such as a different meth nozzle etc...with no luck. So what could be causing the uneven meth distribution??? As bank 2 was the culprit, I wondered if they were clogged to a point that was impacting flow?
This is when I contacted Steve...who as we all know is a regular contributor to the forum...the car was booked in for a port clean! As most of us I'm quite particular on who does what to my car...local BMW dealership wanted £800 so Steve's option was a no-brainer despite the 300 mile round trip!

Got down for 8.15 and left the car in the capable hands of A1BN...needless to say Steve kept me informed of the progress that was being made whilst I tucked into a Tesco breakfast!
3.5 hours later the car had a full check over and was given the green light! A1BN perform a diagnostic pre and post work..which is a good idea as it highlights issue prior to work being carried out for both parties.
Steve is a real gentleman and has a true understanding of the N54 engine...Steve kindly sent me the photos of the ports...5 & 6 were the worst..I believe they run hotter than the other cylinders?
As you can see a sterling job was done Unfortunately this doesn't seem to have fixed my meth flow issue...which is a pisser...but they did need doing!

Only negatives from the visit is the 300 mile round trip the terrible weather and the 4 hours I had to spend in Stevenage

Thanks to Steve and the guys who worked on my car...highly recommended!

Thanks for the info. I presume your meth injection is upstream of the inlet valves? Would explain why the backs of your valves were actually pretty clean...

Good to hear you enjoyed the experience Russ, sadly as you've stated didn't quite sort out the on going issue you've got re meth's, but on a general maintenance side of things its a must on these cars.

I'm not too up on the meth's thing, I understand what it does but I suppose a bit like a set of jets on an old school carb you've got to play around a fair bit (perhaps with rolling road assistance to get the optimum balance) otherwise you'll never get the best set up (my understanding at least)

Valves like most if not all 335i's were coked up.. end result shows clean valves as you'll see no doubt small but detectable improvements in how the car drives.

Stevenage isn't the most desirable town but the local Tesco's as you've discovered do an all right breakfast

But glad your happy re the end result re the work done
