Warranty ///M
Chaps,
I'm thinking of jumping into something of a beasty car for about a year before I have kids... It's an 05' or 55' reg with only 61,500 mileage. I know it's history and it's had many notorious things replaced all under warranty by BMW, and it comes with FBMWSH. Now, the guy who currently owns it pays £67.00 p/mnth with Mondial but when I rang them asking for a quote for myself and to have it transferred, they shot it upto to £111, £128 or £147 depending on the cover I won't own an ///M without warranty but is there anyone who can guide me on a good warranty company (no fuss about when it comes to doing the work and uses genuine BMW parts) which is much more competitive - ideally in the same price region as the current owner has? Thanks, Sam |

Below 60k it's a fixed price from bmw. He obviously has this deal and it carries on running while he has the car.
After this, or when it swaps owners the new quote will become valid. Hence the massive price hike. None of the other warranties are worth the paper they are written on. They will avoid all claims from what I hear. WM |

When I asked around a few BMW specialists they seemed to think only go with BMW or Warranty Direct. No one else was worth it they reckoned. You hear bad about both so I just went with BMW.

Mo, hahaha u know me too well.
No it's not an M E46 Won't say anything until / unless it's done as that's cheating otherwise LOL. Yeah spoke to Warranty Direct and they did a nice job of explaining and going through it all and actually gave me a quote for £800 to cover everything. I was expecting £1000+ |

Tax on this would be £290 and insurance is half of what I pay now, surprisingly!

E60 M5 at 2005 and being £290 tax a year.
I've owned one and in the time I had it it had some £9k's worth of warranty work in the first 7 months alone lol. They are superb though when working. Reason for cheap tax is because it's in that nice little gap before the emissions hike was introduced. Now as for the warranty, as WM has stated its because of the swap of ownership they adjust for it being over 60k miles. It's not just a transfer as it used to be when you could still get the swap over of cheap monthly payments. Now they in essence cancel the previous owners policy and take a new one out for the new owner and then apply the new pricing. Warranty Direct are good/bad from differing stories I've been told. Also when I bought the X5 they wouldn't cover me at the time saying they wouldn't cover a car with an engine bigger than 4.5 litres and so was stuffed with the X being a 4.8 so I just payed the extra to have mondial cover it.

Thanks Raj. Good info for me. I'll call Mondial and see what they can do.
I won't say what the car is as I may not get it depending on the warranty outlay, so let's see how my convo with Mondial goes tomorrow. Most of what I've read directs me toward Mondial but some have also recommended WD. |

With those warranty costs def M5/M6. Would be an epic move and im assuming clutch, actuators etc have been fixed. Mpg might be hard to stomach.
Im not sure wyat the deal is with extended warranty. My turbos were replaced at 95k, BMW paid for parts and previous owner paid for labour. US has extended warranty on HPFP but not sure it extends here. |

Unless work had been done since it ticked over the 60k mark, the best play would have been to buy it, tell them its on 59000, and get the cheaper quote.
Obviously that is illegal, but so are many things. Sadly BMW insured warranty costs go nuts after 60k. It's not progressive at all. |

There are a few cars I'm considering but again, won't say what until it's done lol. Sorry for anyone itching to know ! |
