Tuned 335: Step vs. Stick
I've been watching alot of youtube videos of JB2, V2, etc. tuned 335s but almost every one of the videos were of steptronic. I'm wondering how much faster the 6 speed version would be with these tunes. Has anybody made videos to show the difference?

a stick will only have a slight advantage off the line because the step has a slight delay at W-O-T. but the plus side to step is that it will never miss a shift. i think its only about 2/10ths of a second difference in the 1/4

there are a couple of videos out there. Auto usually isfaster than stick since most people can't shift faster than the 335 auto. ( stock for stock or with same mods)

It's a lot closer then that actually. A lot of places that tested both showed step was faster in the 1/4 mile.

Just wear a helmet and neck brace when you drive in it, then you'll be fine once you get out.

if your perfect after 4th gear the stick is faster other then that the step is faster its proven and its because of the gear ratios sorry to burst your bubble

The Steptronic on average has show to yield better 1/4 times. The step shifts only 2/10 of a second slower than the SMG transmission; it has proven time and time again to be quicker due to the gearing, the speedy shifts, and probably due to the throttle staying open causing less turbo lag between shifts...

even if someone can shift the manual as fast as the step, the step will still have an advantage due to the more agressive gear ratio's. Dont know what they are off the top of my head.

Staying on Boost between gear changes is probably the steptronics biggest advantage over the manual.

Very informative guys!!!
![]() I think steptronic also has the advantage of brake boosting if that is the correct term, to gain better 60 foot times? Another thing is how come magazine tests show steptronic 0.2 sec slower than stick shift in 0-60 MPH? If steptronic is 2/10ths slower then SMG then it is probably safe to assume steptronic shifts as fast or even faster than a good stick shifter? ![]() |

I consider myself a good stick driver. I have owned nothing but manuals all my life and tracked cars for 3 years. I test drove both the manual and the step 335 and chose the step for a couple reasons. I could tell there was no way I was as fast with the manual, and I personally felt the manual felt a little "slushy" oddly enough. However I was coming from a modified STI that had a great short shift kit on it.
I still think manuals are more fun to drive and fortunately I still have a car with a manual transmission. I do have no regrets at all in choosing the step on the 335. |

You arent bursting any bubbles, i can launch harder than any auto and i can hold boost in between shifts with the way i drive... The gear ratio isnt everything...
