Cobb tune with newest N55 ROM
Hey guys,
So I bought a 2011 335i Sport+Premium in early December. I am in CA, so I bought a V2 Cobb off Ebay for $200ish. Turns out, I had an unsupported ROM. So I talked to Cobb and they told me I could take it in to get updated but warned me that there was a new DME version released in December. So of course, I went in to get updated. Figures, because I got the new ROM that is also unsupported. Cobb told me it would take a couple weeks to a few months. That was early December, and it's almost March now with no answers as to when they will release a new firmware to update new ROM. They keep saying they don't have the resources have a team crack the new ROM. So I guess I have two options. Sell Cobb I bought and December and can't use, go JB4, or somehow go back one ECU version. I don't know of any shops capable of this. BMW said they can't. I am in CA so I can't buy a JB4 off the official site either. Is anyone else in the same dilema as me? I ride a very tricked out BMW S1000RR daily (200HP dyno) so going to a stock 335i is painfully slow and I am tired of waiting for Cobb. |

I can't remember, I will look after work. It's the newest version released in December.
I did get it updated. The ROM I had was 100% unsupported by Cobb, so I had to. But then the one they flashed at dealer was so new, that Cobb couldn't support the new one yet. It's been since early December and still waiting on support. Only way I could use the Cobb is to either flash the DME back to one older version (not sure who could do that) or just wait it out (but it's already been months). Cobb said they don't have the resources to spend on N55. The only other thing is they said to get more users of this new ROM riled up to make a demand for new support. EDIT: The ROM in ECU now is 98G1B Last edited by Peen; 02-23-2016 at 05:23 PM.. |

I got lucky that my ROM was only updated to 98G0B mid-last year, which is the most recent ROM officially supported by COBB. I have to remember to tell the dealer not to touch my software next time I bring my car in...
N55 support from Cobb is close to non-existent, but there is still a slight chance for ROM update, check this out - http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1219297 |

Yeah it's getting frustrating. Basically since I got the car in December when all the dealers got the new update, and I started out with a unsupported ROM, was pretty much out of luck from the start.
Called them again today, and they said the same as 2 months ago...no ETA on update. Might be time to sell and go JB4. |

Sorry this has become a cluster F. I was leaning towards Cobb as well but they don't have anything for my 2012 E92. So back to JB4 for me which is fine I suppose except for dealing with the occasional hiccup. Actually works out cuz I believe there is more front end boost on JB4 than Cobb which apparently kicks in at higher rpms.

Hit up BrenTuning I believe they recently managed to help someone in MA flash their newer ROM to an older one support by Cobb. Bren is pretty amazing with the BMW tools
emails can be slow at times. Best way is to call or fb them |

Hey, I had a similar issue and had mine updated mid last year and have 98G0B. I currently have cobb V3 From the sounds of it, if I were you, I would go JB4. No point in waiting for Cobb to work on a new rom update. I don't think there is much support for the N55s anymore

Thanks, just ordered JB4 with flex fuel wires and Blue tooth. E85 station is right down the street from me!
If they ever release the Cobb tune I will try it. Probably will just end up selling it though. |
