Oh dear, rear left shock... o.0

I've noticed the last 2 - 3 days that my car wasn't feeling planted as I'm used too. At first glance I didn't notice it until I saw my rear left tyre had a slightly larger gap then all 3 other corners....

Can someone confirm if the broken cracked part on the shock is the bump stop?

Yes, that is the bump stop. But that itself shouldn't affect ride quality, handling or ride height. Is the shock blown? If you look at the shock body does it look like its covered in grease or leaking?

Just replaced my shocks and they were all toast. Car had 68k miles. Also did the springs though they were still fine (part of lowering kit). It's really easy to pull the rear shock and you can then see what shape it's in. If you have lot of miles on them may as well replace.

The smashed bump stop could be an indicator that the shock is blown. A blown shock could abuse the bump stop, as it it would cause the car to slam into this on a more frequent basis.

Yea I'm thinking I might be replacing the rear shocks.

Plan for this weekend is to check the top of the shock and inspect further.

I guess my next question would be... do I replace the shock with oem or after market.
Im happy with the msport ride height. Any lower would be just for show and not function. This is a DD.

The spring dictates ride height. Shock has no effect on it.

Mine didn't leak either but at 70K the rears were done.
Once out I could compress by hand.
