More car problems, loud noise, please help me diagnose

Hi All,
I am having a really bad month with my car.

I brought the car to an indy shop and:
1) Oil Filter Hausing Gasket
2) one week later Water Pump
3) one week after that I lost all my coolant due to a lose clamp

4) Now I am getting some weird noise upfront. Please help me diagnose

here is a video.

I really want to keep the car i hope this does not keep up...

This is the main reason why I prefer to do work on my car my self

Thank you all

The shop left a clamp loose and your coolant completley drained out?! Were you driving without coolant?

My coolant light came on and pulled over shortly after before my temperature gauge started to rise. Basically my coolant came out all at once it was not a slow leak

Did you bring the car back to the mechanic who replaced your waterpump?

yes, I bought it back there after I lost the coolant and they took care of it. However now a few days later I am having this new issue and I really do not want to bring it back to them as I feel every time I do another issue arises. Might be coincidence but I prefer to move on.

I would deff move on but i would have it properly diagnosed by a better mechanic and once the issue is discovered ask them if it could have been caused by the other shops screw up. Hearing the noise from a video recording is tough to diagnose, but it doesnt sound good at all whatever it is. Only thing i would say is running out of coolant can cause serious damage to a cars motor. If this issue came after the coolant drained out due to the shop screwing up, i would force them to pay for any repairs and i wouldn't let them touch the car. Could be something minor but i wouldn't take a chance knowing the coolant drained out of the car completley.

Yes, the only part that makes me feel better is the fact that the noise keeps on going for a few seconds after the car is shot off so it's not the motor but an external component.

When I started the car this morning there was no noise, thus the noise only appears when the car is warmer and the fan is on.

Do the bleed procedure on the water pump coolant system......my guess is you have a giant air pocket from losing all your coolant. If the shop was too clueless to put clamps on correctly chances are when you went back they just filled it up and called it a day.

I believe its loosen the bleed screw on the reservoir, ignition on, but not started, heat on all the way, fan on to level 3, then hold the gas pedal for 10 seconds and let it go. You should be able to go to the front passenger side of the car and hear the electric pump running. Let it run for 12 mins then open the coolant reservoir and top it off.

It sounds more like they drop a screw down the radiator fan and its moving around when the fan is on, or the fan might be going bad. I am going to have someone check it out soon and let you all know how I make out. I would like to go one year trouble free after this..

Very possible it can be the fan but the video recording makes it sounds so bad because the sound quality is not good. Hopefully its just a simple fix

If it is the fan which is possible then when car is running and you hear the noise then unplug fan and see if it stops. If it does then it's fan.

I've confirmed today the noise happens only when the radiotor fan turns on. It is actually not that bad, the other day it sounded much louder because the sound was rebounding against the walls. I now have to figure out if this is something I need to fix. I am going to spray some electric contact cleaner in there to see if it helps...

by the sound of things the shop does not know what they are doing, it could be that the fan is running harder than normal, I had the same issue and it turned out the water pump was giving out. try the bleeding procedure yourself and see if the helps.

open bleeder screw be careful not to break it since I broke mine.
fill with coolant to top until the coolant starts leaking from the bleeder screw.
tighten the screw back on make sure not to over tight since you will break it.
place the key in FOB, push start button to AC
turn on the heater on high
put the fan on at lowest level
press the accelerator for 10 seconds

now you should be able to hear the water pump go on and off
once it fully stops check your coolant level.
since your coolant was completely drained you might need to do this a couple of times.

if this was done already, I wish you luck.

Thank Montego, I plan to take it in for a 2nd opinion before I do anything else. I really would like to keep the car but I am not sure if I can keep on dealing with little issues here and there from a 10 year old car...
I really like the car but I do not have a lot of patience

Its a great car (more engine than car really), which is why on the first page of the manual it reads, "If you aren't currently having any issues, that just means you haven't found it yet. Please keep looking."

All jokes aside, if you can find the patience or know how to fix some of the smaller issues yourself, the good days are worth the drawbacks.

completely agree with you, mine is an 09 so far replaced injectors water pump and oil cooler gasket with only 66K miles on it. but I love the damn thing. find the patience and your issue might be minor.

Ive been lucky so far and only had the thermostat and water pump go aside from plugs, oil, standard maintenance stuff. Then again Ive only had the car since last March, about 10k miles. Lucky enough that its an 07 with only 59k on it, and had both the HPFP done at 32k and the turbos at 44k before I got it. Like I said before......just preparing for what comes next.
