Bench testing Injectors

Got a good deal on some used N54 injectors with low miles. They look good and I have the new supplemental parts and seal to install them, but would like to test them before installation. Most DIY's I have found are for a different type of injector. Is there any way to bench test these? Sorry if I missed a DIY on the forum...did a search, came up empty. TIA!

I suppose that is what I may end up doing. Would be nice to be able to check them beforehand, tho'.

wouldn't you have to code them too after you put them in?

I bought over 20 used "low mileage" injectors, had them bench tested by a professional service, received 7 "good" and 5 "ok" rebuilt ones back (at least 8 were scrapped), only to have more than half of them end up leaking and causing lots of misfires and black soot coming out of the pipes. Ended up buying 6 new ones which is what I should have done in the first place to save myself a lot of time, headaches and money, and risking engine damage in the process. So believe me when I tell you that it is not worth it to mess around with used injectors.

Thx, I also have a bit of trepidation about this, but they are easy enough to swap out, I suppose.

There's a picture floating around here, where the OP loosens the fuel line going to each injector enough to rotate the line~160* to the right (driver's side) which allows the injectors to be connected to the fuel line, but not installed in the engine. Power up the car (don't start it) so that the LPFP pressurizes the line and look for leaks from the nozzle.

I will concur with what he stated above.. Just get new Intectors I've scene everything under the sun with bad injectors from fires to fuel hyrdolocked engines and entertainment rods no joke!!
If you on a budget do them in banks 123 and 456... Also they need to be registered which you can't do so make sure you take down the 6 digits o the injectors and there location

Thx. Actually, I do have the software tools to code them.

False.

The goal of the test is to see which injectors are leaking under mechanical pressure while cranking the car over with each injector's respective harness disconnected. If you "power up the car" but "don't start it" you're gonna be in for a disappointing experience.

Thanks for the correction. So you turn over the engine, like you're trying to start it?

What do you use to catch the spray and keep from making a fire hazard and/or a god-awful mess? At that pressure I am assuming a plastic jug won't work?

Any danger to doing this with the intake manifold removed( besides some thrown codes)? I ask because I also replaced the LP fuel sensor and when I reconnect the battery and do this test, I want to check that the LP sensor line has no leaks and it is directly under the intake manifold. Thx!

Try not to smoke a cigarette while doing so, and you should be fine.

Before running the test, did you let the car sit a while and pull the spark plugs to see if they were wet? Curious to see if you noticed any other symptoms during the troubleshooting process, or if yanking the injectors was the only way to tell that something was wrong, etc.

This test was perfect...identified that one of the injectors was leaking! All 6 installed and coded. Car runs, sounds fine. Now I need to track down a 2D2E code...
