Hi All! I'm the newest member to the 335D community! I picked up my 2010 with 70k miles last Monday, and wanted to introduce myself. I'm new to this car, but not new to diesel. I own a 96 MB E300D with 232k miles, which has served me well for 10 years. Went to a VW dealership to look at a TDI, they showed me the 335D, drove it, and never looked back. Unfortunately, the SES came on the day after I bought it, and they are fixing it now (NOX sensors). They had to send to BMW to diagnose. Not complaining (yet) - just a fact. I get a little nervous looking around these parts because of all the horror stories, and not very many DIY threads. I've never had to take my E300D to the mechanic, as I do all my own work, but this car seems more..... intricate..... I just hope I'm able to keep pulling out my tools when something goes wrong and not my wallet! so far I have only seen that Chilton makes a 335D repair manual, so I'll be getting that for now.

Anyway, I love the car, and I'm looking forward to getting to know the community better!

Yes, I realize not all stories end badly. The torque is what sold me, and I'm already looking at what tune I may want to go with!

I'm fairly new here myself, but I'm a little different than most newbies because I have TWO 2011 335d cars. Bought one in November for my daughter's first car (2011 sport pack/nav/premium w/88K miles at the time, CPO maintenance to 100K and CPO warranty to 100K.)

I loved hers so much I replaced my 12-yr-old Acura RSX with my own 2011 335d M Sport in January. (70K miles on it then.)

I bought an extended warranty for both, as I got them for reasonable prices and could afford to pay for the extra peace of mind.

My daughter's car has been in the shop twice, but once was because of a faulty repair done at the original BMW service shop while the prior owner had the car. The other time was something with the EGR and thermostat - paid my $50 deductible and drove the loaner for a week.

My car has given me some NOX SES codes, but I bought an OBD2 device and I clear the codes myself.

I bought a Maxchip Pro tuner for mine, and good Lord it's a beast. But I want more !! I liked the Maxchip Pro so much that I have ordered one for my daughter's car too !! My next upgrade will be suspension, as I want the car to corner on rails, although now it does pretty good. I want better though !!

You must buy a OBD II decoder - search for the various ones. A manual is of no use without knowing the codes.

The emissions system is much more complex (and seemingly the most troublesome part of the cars) than the E300d's. Unfortunately, some of the parts that fail (NOx sensors, DEF tank sensors, etc.) are quite expensive. Heaven forbid that an injector fails ($500 each or so.)

Love mine. Gotta go down and read the codes as the SES came on last Friday.

Welcome. My car has been free from major problems, as well. I just tuned it as a preventative measure and, well, just because I could! I love it!

66K on the clock for my 2011 MSport - zero problems to date - just routine maintenance - love it / steering rack issue about 10k ago but that had nothing to do with it being a diesel

I'll have to look into the MaxChip Pro and see what it has to offer. The power gains seem to be very impressive.

Personally, I'm not convinced that NOx sensors are a failure point. Still under the impression that it is to do with a poor delivery of urea. Too many cases of replaced NOx sensors for a problem to return soon after.
