Wrapped wheels?

My summer wheels are due for a re-furb and I am considering having them wrapped. Is it practical. would the finish be longlasting. Any comments welcome.

i imagine a vinyl wrap would be damaged with the amount of stones etc that are constantly hitting the rims

Front spoilers and car bodies are wrapped with success.

Depending on the style, they would be an utter pain to wrap wouldn't they? Considered plasti dipping? Pretty cheap and DIY protection.

I was going to wrap mine in a gloss candy red, simple flat spokes so should be alot easier. One single piece for the front face and the inside can have multiple pieces for ease of wrapping.

All depends on the style of the wheel really. I'm not sure I'd recommend it personally though.

£200-300 for a decent refurb or about 30 quid for some wrap

I bet to have a set of wheels wrapped well, to the point where they'd even come close to a refurb would be the same if not more than a refurb.

Not if you did it yourself, it's not too hard. People can even wrap brake calipers now.

I doubt it would look anything near a refurb if you did it yourself.

I'm pretty sure when people advertise wheel "wrapping" it's always plasti dip as wrapping a set of wheels would be near impossible. It looks good for maybe a week? Then the brake dust and road dirt sticks to it and stains, I did it a couple of times using different methods and give up in the end. It's good as a quick test to see if you actually like black wheels otherwise I really wouldn't, no matter how many "gloss coats" or "dip protect" you use they will end up looking horrendous.

You would be best getting them dipped in hydrographics - get them done in whatever metallic colour you want

I'm not trying to wrap my calipers

My wheels on the other hand have a flat face, and 6 flat spokes, so can be wrapped easily. Much better finish than plasti dip, temporary until I get them re-polished.

That looks good, just not sure how durable it would be with all the road salt and other crap on our great roads
