Another E92 battery thread
Hi guys new to the forum bought a E92 330d the other day and the battery is dead, when i was buying it the seller said that its probably on its way out, didn't think much about it until i looked in to replacing it and realised it sa bit of a pain. So form what i understand after reading numerous amount of posts on many different forums that the battery need to be coded.
But i realised that my car does not have the IBS sensor...but the batter is AGM as it has the little window on top? So what sort of battery do i need AGM or just normal? Also do i need to code the battery in or can i just register it? I have attached a photo of my actual battery any help would be great as at the moment car is sitting on my drive. Cheers |

That's a non AGM battery pal,and the need to be registered when replaced. But to be honest I've changed batteries in the past without registering and it's made no odds to the car.

If you replace it with the same size you shouldnt need to do anything.
Non-IBS cars dont need the battery registered. Coding tells the car your battery size, and so doesnt need adjusted if you fit the same one. Registration tells the IBS system that the battery has been replaced, so without IBS theres nothing to register. |

Just had mine replaced on my E92, gave the garage my registration plate, they found the battery, quick swap and coded with Carly about 5 miles later.. Not sure if it makes a difference or not coding the battery, but it worked without coding either way.

Without IBS, it doesnt alter anything, because its the IBS system that does the altering. |

A number of other forum posts state that running the battery registration on cars without IBS will fail.
Its also mentioned in TIS that batterys only need to be registered on cars with IBS. IBS is the part that records the battery condition and alters charging to suit. As such the IBS needs told you've fitted a new battery If theres no IBS theres nothing to reset. |

It certainly doesn't fail,I know this first hand.Did a customers 2006 330i the other day.Regardless of having an ibs the dme/dde still has a charging map based on which type of battery it's told is fitted.Cars without ibs can still be programmed to accept different batteries and can have the charging map reset via 'register battery replacement'.This function goes back to 2002 7 series non AGM batteries. |
