325i Ticking Noise Out Of Warranty Advice

Hey guys I have searched high and low and found lots of useful information on this but its mainly old and for cars that are in or have warranty. My car has the loud ticking tappet noise and when I say loud its horrible, feel embarrassed when its a cold morning.

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever had anything done out of warranty or seen what BMW do out of warranty vehicles? I know the full solution is a new head and I cant see BMW even entertaining me on a 2006 e92 but looking for just some general advice

If not thinking it might be time to trade the old girl in and get something else

Why don't you just get an indy dealer to have a listen to it and give you a quote to fix it. Could be something simple that is fixable. If something goes inside the engine as you are driving it could turn into a major repair bill.

I have had someone have a quick look at it who said it is definitely tappets and told me there is no point doing the tappets alone as the fault will re occur in another 5-10k miles due to the problem being an issue with the cylinder head oil galleries.

Was just seeing if anyone else has had any experience with the fault and what they had done.

Ever had your car updated/programmed for this?I work for Bmw and used to own a n52 330i.had the hydraulic tappet issue too.I did a bit of digging and read about the modified cyl heads etc but there is also a technical measure to try first.Once programmed it jacks up the oil pressure from the variable oil pump and stops the ticking.I did it to mine, and never occurred again even cold starts.

Hi that's your lifters. Bar changing out for newer parts. If you do lots of short journeys just taking it out on a long ish spirited run, getting the car nice and hot will sort it

At the moment I am trying Wynnes oil additive for the hydraulic valve lifters and Wynnes petrol additive for the injectors on our Seat 1ltr shopping trolley because of loud tapping noise..
