Tool to evacuate fluids
I'll be needing to do a full coolant evacuation here soon after I fix my current leak. I've been filling it with water until the leak is fixed so once I do that I want to do a complete evacuation and refill with actual coolant.
That being said, I'll also be doing a few more fluid evacuations soon (brake fluid, diff fluid, etc.).. So I'm looking for a tool I can use for this, I have one of these harbor freight vacuum pumps that I used for my AC in the past. I'm wondering if this will work for all the above as well. Or if anyone can make suggestions on a tool that would. This is what I have currently: http://www.harborfreight.com/air-vac...ors-96677.html Edit: Reading the description on Harbor Freight's site it looks like the above vacuum pump is just for AC systems... Queue suggestions lol Last edited by EdmJunky; 03-22-2016 at 01:17 PM.. |

Look up there transfer pump. Useful for Brake, differential. Unfortunately can not be used to evacuate coolant.
ECS seems to have a good evacuation tool but needs a air compressor to pressurize the unit. https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E90-32...ing/ES2712734/ They also carry a fluid extractor: https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E90-32...g_Drain_15324/ I haven't used any of these tools however. I did the pull the radiator plug and pump U hose method.

For the coolant, I've seen the ones from ECS but I can't bring myself to pay $80 for those. If I can't find anything else I guess I'll most likely go with that schwaben extractor, seems like that would work well for more than just the coolant. But I vaguely remember reading something on this forum about a cheaper vac pump that worked just as well. Haven't found anything while searching though. Just drain the coolant.
For the diff there are lots of options. A pneumatic fluid extractor works great. For the brake fluid, a turkey baster works good along with a Motive Power Bleeder.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
