Another wastegate failure...woohoo
Hey whats up....after reading up on all these wastegate threads, i figured i should take my car to the dealer to see if the rattle i was hearing was from the UR high flow catted dps, the AA exhaust or the wastegate. Well the dealer called today to tell me it was another wastegate failure. Now i have the procede installed in the car, which my dealer knows about, but they told me for them to fix this problem they would have to open a puma case and a rep from bmw would come down to inspect. I havent gooten the full details yet, but the dealer is on my side. Im hoping were gonnna try and do this throrugh warranty, but i see it as unlikely. I would take the car back and remove the procede, but it might be unbelievable to the rep. that this car did not have a piggyback since there is so much work done to this car. Ill keep you guys updated. Just for a little background i orignally had the AA chip which bypassed the solenoid, dont know if this was the culprit, but i started hearing the noise around the time iinstalled the AA exhaust and dps which was about 2 weeks afte the chip. I thought it was the exhuast, but i guess now. Anywho anyone know how much out of pocket this would cost with no warranty? woudl the turbo need to be replaced or both? anyone?

man that sucks! Well im kinda right there with you. My car is at the dealership as we speak, dealing with the same "wastegate actuator" issue. Only difference is that i reverted back to stock before i took it in. Also, its best that both turbos are replaced rather than just one.

I will probably never understand how you could go to the dealer without removing AT LEAST the PROcede.

Whats done is done and obviously he should have taken the car back to stock...bla bla bla...This will be the first case where we will find out whats going to happen to cars that are modded...Its more of a actual situation instead of everyone contemplating what will happen...Unfortunately he is the guinea pig, but we will all know what will happen soon, a modded car brought to the dealership for warranty work that is related to boost and turbos..For his sake I hope it gets resolved without money out of his pocket.....

wow, this is going to be on expensive fix... maybe you can fight and try to have them cover it since its a problem thats occurred to others, after all, they have to prove what mods you did fucked up your car. Best of luck, keep us updated.

So let me get this straight, because of the piggyback being known about by the dealer, you might have to pay out of your pocket with no warranty help now?
That sucks. Let us know what caused the wastegate failure. |

first all i didnt bring the car in for the wastgeate...i brought it in cause the tpms light was on and said it was inactive...my dealer knows my car is modded and that it is chipped...they have asked me in the past...many of the service guys have 335is also and they have chips too. I wasnt gonna hide soemthing they know about. I think being honest with your dealer is the best way to go. I doubt if i took the chip out they would believe i didnt have one since i have every other possible mod on the car...they are not stupid. Since i was honest from the getgo tey are gonna tryand help me around it. Im still waiting for the call for them to tell me what they next step woll be...they are trying to figure how to get it through warranty, and not having my engine warranty voided. It wouldve been silly for me to try and hide something they knew about...hopefully it all ends well. if i end up paying out of pocket, then oh well, would nt be like i havent spent tons of money on this car anyway. I tink if it does come ouot of pocket though ill go with dinan chip afterwrds, cause obviously these wasgates are finicky, i only have 6500 miles on the car and the hpfp already went too. we';ll see ill keep you guys updated what they say. lata

I had the shop foreman in my car on Laguna Seca during a high performance driving event there..and at about 100 on the main straight..doing a 3/4 shift...my car had about a 2 second hesitation...where it seems like something was definitely wrong...I thought it was a diverter valve getting stuck (since I have felt that on my 2000/2001 Audi S4s..) but he thought it may be the wastegate rod getting stuck...it hasnt done it since...and it only did it about 3-4 times during two days of track sessions...so I dont know if I can do anything until it catastrophically fails. We will see if my issue is related.

my car has done that occasionally, thats what i had thought that the wastegate had stayed closed. My car other than the occassional hiccup maybe once a month , runs strong, so i dont know how bad it wold be to leave as is. this would be a perfect time for a turbo upgrade if anyone had one out yet...sux

If they bring in a rep,and he sees just the down pipes he can refuse the claim and void your warranty.Hope it doesnt happen.Good luck.

In my case it wasnt a noise..it was a lack of power...I forget the sequence of events that happens when you turbo spools up..but when you let off the throttle...I think the turbo releases excess air..and it my case..it stayed open..and I had no power for about 2 seconds...during a shift. I am not sure if what I said is true..I am no mechanic..but I have owned and operated turbocharged cars since 2000.
