URGENT: HELP NEEDED: Fuel Door Safety Flap

Hi guys

My wife cannot add fuel to her 2009 X5. She tried two filling stations, both times she thought she was using the fastflow diesel nozzle. She looked into the filler neck and saw a safety flap preventing entry of the nozzle.

Is there a way to reset this?

Is this mechanical or electrical?

Could the car have activated this since the CEL light is on for bad SCR valve?

I ordered a new SCR valve this morning.

Thanks,

Marco

The flap is always there. Honestly, she might just face to slam it in there. My X5 only likes certain nozzles. Others, even though they look similar just won't go in easily. You literally just have to force her in there...

The release mechanism for the anti fueling door is activated off the left (back) side of it if I recall. Holding the fuel nozzle to that side while inserting in could allow for it to go in.

I have run into a few stations that the 'car' pumps did not have the correct size nozzle, forcing me to use my plastic filling adapter.

Thank you for all the replies.

So here is what I learned.

There are two little black tabs in the flap, press those at the same time and the flap lock will release.

Once I did this I drove it directly to the Chevron station, I inserted the diesel nozzle and it was fine.

I then inserted the gasoline nozzle, wham! No entry.

I went back to diesel nozzle, I gave it a twirl in the filler and it unlocked. I think those black tabs are pushed in with the larger diesel nozzle.

She was being cautious, which I suppose is good.

Thanks again!
