Between a rock and a bigger rock
Ok where do I start. Being that I work for the military overseas as a contractor, I am allowed to participate in the BMW military sales program and can get really good discounts on buying a BMW. But with these prices its hard to choose, you be the judge here. Here is where i'm at with the options I want.
E92 M3 Base:51,250 T.Package:3,050 Ipod/USB:350 N.Leather:950 Delivery:775 Total:56,375 E92 335i Base:37,050 Navigation:1,900 S.Package:1,100 Ipod/USB:350 CA:500 Step Trans:1,275 Paddles:100 D.Leather:1,450 Delivery:775 Total:44,975 The total difference of 11,400. What do you guys think? With the M3 you would have M status, but the 335i with a couple of cheap mods can keep up with a stock M3, and not to mention that every mod for the M will be an arm and a leg. Should I bite the bullet and spend the extra 11k for an M or keep my money and mod the hell out of a 335i. I like the price on the M I have seen loaded 335is for about that much. Anyway thats it what do you guys think? Last edited by Terrance28; 03-08-2008 at 06:21 AM.. |

Performance-wise, there is so much more potential with the E92 335i. However, there is a certain prestige and appeal that comes with the M3. If there is no markup with the M3, I would go with the M3.

Yes the miltary pay us civilian contractors very well. And no there is no mark up on the M3 or the 335i. The price thats in the origianal post is the price I pay.

Also I was just thinking that if I get the M3 that I will be replacing the wheels with aftermarket right away. So I can just get the regular 18s which is no charge. So the new price for the M3 will be 56,375. So now the difference is 12,850. Which kinda pushes my decision towards the M3 even more. I will change the pricing on the original post so nobody gets confused.

Damn, that is tough. I'm gonna go against da grain here and go wid da 335. I always prefer da fact that its boosted and wid da savings over da M, you have so many performance and suspension options that will make you faster and outhandle a stock M. More bang for da buck, that's my 2 cents...

Sorry one more option I forgot to list on the 335i that i would want and thats dakota leather. Which adds another 1,450 added to the 335i list which brings that total up too 44,975. Which now makes a difference of 11,400 between the M and the 335i. I changed the original post again to reflect difference.

While you are making these comparisons, dont forget you are going to get a few thousand off of the list price of the 335i and nothing off the price of an M3.

I think the diff is even more as apples to apples you would have to compare with a manual trans as that is what you get on the M3 until the double clutch unit comes out.

M3 is the true sports car...
You can match the performance of a M3 with a modded 335i, but you won't get the same feeling as the M3. The noise, the power deliver, the handling... also don't forget that M3 has adaptable suspension, which means it's more comfortable than a 335i when its set to comfort mode...

Sounds to me like you have your heart on the M3. You're looking for some reassurance of your decision. Go for the M. I'm sure you wont regret it. What's 11k over 60 months?...insignificant if you're in the market for M3.

M3. I know how much you contractors make and you can fork over 11k more for the prestige and warranty. Plus, right now with all the mods on 335's, they still cant outright beat a M3. Hang? Sure.

Since you plan on "modding the hell out of a 335i", the price difference would actually be less and more like a few thousand (depending on what you mean by modding the hell out of a 335i).........thus, go for the M3!!

Thanks fellas for the advice. I think I will be much happier with the M3. Now I gotta tell my wife that I have changed my mind on yet another vehicle.
