Chemical Guy's clay question

I ordered the heavy-duty--purple--and medium-duty--grey--clay.

The website states that the purple clay is for serious contamination and all that talk.

Anyways, is the purple clay only for professional applications, i.e. removing overspray?

Will the purple clay damage the finish beyond what a dual-action polisher could fix; meaning that only a rotary could fix the damage?

Also, using either the purple or grey, afterwards I will Porter-Cable-polish the car with Mezerna compound then final polish. So, I'm not concerned about either clay scuffing the clear coat, rather my concern is the purple clay being overkill for my application, thereby damaging the finish to the extent that polishing with a dual-action will not fix the damage.

iv'e never tried the purple clay, so i can't really say what it's going to do. the gray clay seemed to leave behind a bit of marring, but nothing that wasn't easily polished out.

so i couldn't imagine the purple clay to de much worse than that. your best bet is to try a small inconspicuous area first to see how it affects your paint.

and if i were you i would pick up a Green bar from CG (you have to call it in) FMINUS really likes it and i have some on order.

Theres no reason to cause extra marring due to using an overly aggressive clay. Either of those are probably over kill for your car, I'd go with some sonus green or the chemical guys green stuff. It wont cause more swirls than you have and will still remove the contaminants.

Green clay.... Okay, why don't they list it on their website. As an aside, the Chemical Guy's website is borderline ridiculous in that there are so many choices. Plus, apparently there are things like "waterspot remover" and now this Green clay which are not on the website.

So, I bought the Purple clay, Grey clay, and the new Body-sponge--works like clay but isn't clay--so now I need a fourth clay, the Green clay?

What will the green clay do that the others will not?

I'm not concerned about extra marring or inducing swirls by way of clay for my first post-winter clay. I want the most aggressive (read: the fastest) clay that I can use as a once-a-year thing before I do my once-a-year aggressive polish.

I've read some posts by FMinus who states that he uses Purple clay on cars that are newer model years than mine. Plus, I'm in Michigan which means lots of nasty winter-related road contaminates, coupled with the already stuck-on contaminates from years past that I probably never removed via claying. (I was at a car detailing seminar that introduced me to the " 'Plastic Bagy' test for paint smoothness' " test.)

I appreciate the feedback and look forward to more.

They have the wet spot remover.. They just don't like to ship it because of insurance issues.

+1
I was on there last night putting together an order; it was overwhelming trying to figure out the difference between all the products. And I've heard FMinus and other guys mention the waterspot remover too... but it's nowhere to be found.

stick with the green clay, its the best one, if you want to move up, go with the blue. I rarely use the purple on wide paint. I generally use it on lower fenders, bumpers, and wheels. And yes it does marr your paint.

Email me for waterspot remover.
Have you used the body sponge?

Should I not bother with the grey clay that I just received?

the grey will slightly marr the paint. if your going to polish, it's no biggie, just not for regular use.

I was at a detailing seminar this past weekend at a local detailing shop. He had a Body Sponge. It was not from Chemical Guy's, but after inspecting the Body Sponge that Chemical Guy's sent me, it's exactly the same thing. The guy running the seminar thought that the effect of the Body Sponge was equivalent to about 3000 grit sandpaper. However, he thought it worked pretty well, and from a brief demo he did it seemed to do the job.

Any experience?

any foam block/sponge will be identical. And NO it is no where like 3000 grit sandpaper, its only that bad if you do not know how to use the product. Its best to continuously clean the block as you clay since the contaminants do not sink into the body like a traditional clay bar would.

Thanks again Bro. As the weather clears here in Michigan, I can't wait to get some critique on my Jet Black E90. This will be my second year using a machine, and my first with the Flex dual-action.

What do you think about the Menzerna nano-ceramic polish?
