The boot, the manual and the robot seatbelt arm

Hi,

The boot: I didn't expect a spare what with the runflats but neither did I expect this moulded plastic thing which seems to be exactly shaped for something I don't have. Any idea what's supposed to be in here ... and if nothing, why it's such a crazy shape?

The manual: Anyone with an E92 and iDrive, does it mention iDrive in your manual? (or do you have a separate one which covers it). I think I've got the wrong one.

The robot arm: Do you find it offering the belt to phantom passengers once in a while? It's happened a few times to me with nobody in the passenger seat?

There were 2 manuals for the saloon - one with idrive on without. I think you have the wrong one.

Not sure if the boot was designed for anything, but a couple of polishing cloths and wax bottles nestle nicely in there.

Go here for the online PDF of the manual with iDrive : http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29803

For the passenger side arm - did you open the passenger side door (taking something in and out - manual perhaps ) before finally starting the car ?

Mine's got a 2l bottle of water which fits across quite nicely. It just seems such an odd shape - has to be for something!

Ah, quite possible yes. Is that how it knows?! I imagined some sort of seat pressure thing. That's much simpler I guess.

Hiya dodgy, again Are you going over this new car with a fine tooth comb by any chance?

Your plastic thingy is identical to mine so assume it should be there. Why? Bit of funky German art - sorry no idea.

Sounds like you've got the wrong handbook I'm afraid. The idrive is first mentioned on page 14 and thereafter countless times with pictures and clear instructions on how to use all the functions. The handbook is 254 pages long and pages 232-236 covers voice input commands alone! Call to the dealer me thinks.

As for the passenger seatbelt hand over, yes mine does it occasionally when no bum is actually on the passenger seat. Haven't worked out which sequence this occurs ie. key in ignition before drivers door shut or vice versa. Either way, it does do it sometimes but always retracts, so it doesn't bother me TBH.

Hope this helps, Helen.

That's interesting... I have a proper storage area under the cover. Can the moulded plastic thing be removed?

The bit closest in the photos (the flat bit) comes out and is polystyrene foam, beneath it is just a solid plastic sill. The plastic shaped bit doesn't appear to come out unless you undo the bolts that you can see in the image

Mine has a square box cut-out under the flap. It makes for quite good out-of sight storage. - a lot bigger than the photo.

Indeed, a fairly large laptop would sit inside and be out of sight.

SDRX I saw a film when a man had a robot arm. I think it was called 'Robocop'. Do you need to put WD40 on yours?

When first read it, I read it that he didn't ex[ect a spare, but had found that it came with one. Reading it again, that's not what he's saying.

Space might be for an air pump perhps? Does the M3 have one?

He has got a spare wheel but how road worthy it is I am not sure.

If you put something on the passenger seat, then there must be a pressure sensor that detects the weight, and the seatbelt butler extends. Could that be it? If not, then maybe your sensor is dodgy?

If you look at a E93 boot it is very similar but a cover fits over the rear area, inside is the roof motor and is molded as yours.

Strange, becaue under my boot floor is a nice square compartment for keeping things in, it's good for transporting bottles of wine or beer, anything you don't want rolling around
