Anyone good at tweaking the canned COBB maps?
I'd like to modify the stage 1 aggressive map with the ATR program. Just not sure about an easy way of doing it.
My 335i-X is a 2011, and I have axle back exhaust, 5" stepped I/C, BMS CAI. I would like just play with timing in the 3500-6000rpm range, increase boost little by little, and maybe learn how to play with AFR, and fuel octane. I have played around lightly with tuning changes on my previous cars, but not BMW/COBB. Anyone out there want to help a guy out with some quick start tips on getting a little bit more out of the canned Cobb maps? Right now, my load never exceeds 150. Timing only maxes up top around 7*. (ZERO timing corrections) Boost is a mere 9-10psi peak.... Running quality 93 octane, IAT's never over 60-75*F... (Spring weather here) Would like to add 1-2.5* of timing. ( I have Sunoco 260GT plus on hand also) Add 3-6psi more boost a little at a time And lean the AFR's a little higher. (I'm seeing as fat as 10.9-11.1:1!!!) Thanks in advance for any tutorials. IMO, N55's are one of the easiest platforms to tune. I learned self tuning with my MS3, then my EVO, now with the N55.
If I were you, I'd start with leaning your AFR first. These cars like to be nice and lean (I target 12.2 on my pump gas map). Once that's done, do a pull and check for timing corrections. If none arise, you can start incrementally increasing your load targets +5 at a time. Do a pull after each one and check for timing corrections and boost levels. Do this until you either hit your desired boost targets or start to see timing corrections. Lower timing in the areas where you are getting corrections to remove them, then you can look into upping the timing in the higher RPM ranges where the turbo is out of steam. Make only small incremental changes each time. There are obviously some things I'm leaving out like WGDC modification to hit targets or eliminate overrun, MAF/Intake tuning, etc. But the Cobb manual is pretty good at describing these things.
