engine speed sensitive variable assist power steering

There have been several threads about the difficultly of driving the 08 335xi coupe agressively on winding roads. Several weeks ago I came across a thread that implied that accelerating into the turns would make a big difference. I tried that using the paddles and downshifting so that I could power into the turn - not my typical way of driving. It made a big difference but my question is why it makes a big difference. I have noticed the steering feels way different depending on if your foot is on the gas or not and that makes sense given the title of "engine speed sensitive variable assist power steering". Sorry if this is a stupid question but, does the performance difference of accelerating into a turn have anything to do with the steering setup?
