e92 M3 Vs. 335i, is m3 faster?
Just reading some stats on the M3 (e92) on road and track. It seems like most 335i's are running actual times of 12.2's with traps of about 112-113mph. However, I see that Road and track is saying that the M3 does it 12.5@114.8 so basically 115. So my question is even with a modified 335i with tune, exhaust, dp's, CAI is the stock M3 going to walk it in a street race?

Walk? No. Win? maybe. Advantage to 3 under 110mph? Yes. Advantage to M over 110mph? Yes. Debated 1000 times, definitely. Just shut it down at 120. You'll be safer and you'll win. And the M3 owner mad you didn't go to 155 will lose and will look like a reckless 15 year old

I think you can walk the M3 if your 335i has a piggyback plus downpipes. I ran a 2006 Carerra S from 80mph to 145mph he gave up at 120mph because i was already 3-4 cars ahead. And this is before i got my Hot pill. I know Carerra S is not a M3. but its comparable since Carerra's Quater mile time is also 12.5sec

guys I know the m3 vs modded 335 issue has been discussed a ton....but here's my play on it....with performance mods alone, and in a straight line, it would be very close, maybe a drivers race. If you have to make any turns, say goodbye to the m3 as he pulls away. Stock M's just have too much going for them when it comes to suspension.
I love em both. Hell I own a 335 with V2 and intake, and I'm about to place my order for a M3...both e90's.

Maybe if your making less then 360whp the 335 will lose other then that us up there at the 380+ level M3 will lose.Plus the R&T time is the only one like it ,other mags have gotten traps of around 111-112mph on average.

I decided I didn't lose negative equity on an M3... and am getting a house instead =) IMO the M3 in stock trim is much nicer than a stock 335. I had a modded 2005 M3 show room new. It was flawless. I liked it better than my 335. But I'm going to go all out on my 335 so that should change the overall build... 08 M3 is probably a more dominant car, b/c it will lose the 335 in every corner possible =)

yup. i mean, i know that there will be 335s blowing past me when im driving my M3 but i just love the car. if someone dares to call me a fanboy, let me just say this - if i was, i wouldn't have bothered with a 335 in the first place
plus how many cars out there are faster then cars out of their league? you got evos walking ferraris, supras walking basically anything; and im not saying the M3 is out of the 335's league at all.... if i can have both i would. |

335 with Procede + coilovers will hang nicely with an E92 M3 & often be able to pass; did so on the w/e myself on numerous occasions.
On the straights over say 180kmh the M3 will have an advantage but how often do you race in a straight line (IMHO racing on the twisties is much more satisfying) ? The M3 does however have a certain aura, and the V8 sounds awesome. These are 2 things a 335 will never have despite what mods you do. It's a shame that over here in Aus the 335 is $120K and the M3 $170K so that's some serious cash for your ride. You yanks certainly have the best pricing for nice cars ... maybe I need to move to the US again. |

I'm not feeling the new M3. I've heard it described as "a mini M5", and if that is the case then no thanks. My e46 M3 had a real edginess to it, and I loved that car. I will be test driving one soon and if my previous history (4 BMWs in 7 years) repeats itself I may end up in one. I just can't see giving up the massive torque of the tuned 335. I found few occasions to really utilize all my previous M3's capabilities. More likely my next car will be a 135.
