Water pump failure

Hey guys I just joined the club of water pump failure. Here's my codes. I have MHD tuned flashed should I flash back to stock before towing it into the dealer? I have a 07 335i e92 50k miles.

2E81 Electrical cooling pump; speed deviation
2E82 Electrical cooling pump; switch off

Why bother? If it's a 2007, you're far out of warranty.

I went ahead and flashed to stock anyways. I have aftermarket warranty and the dealer is working with them as we speak just wanted to be safe about. Also I have warranty for another 50k miles.

Even if the pump gets covered, I would pay out of pocket for a new tstat while they are there so you don't have to experience this again any time soon.

I'll make sure to mention that, do you how much I'm looking out of pocket wise? Thanks.

Thermostat is around 150-200 at the dealer. They shouldn't charge you for labor.

They will deff charge you for labor or the tech will be pissed lol... They are two separate jobs they are his close to each other tthats all... The water pump can be done with our touching the t stat except for 2 10mm bolts that's it

When I had my water pump covered under after market warranty they covered all the labor but I had to pay out of pocket for the tstat. Fine with me

I don't see why it would be more than an extra 15-30 min labor to do the tstat if your already doing the wp.

Is there a particular brand that causes such a high early rate of failure? New revisions I should be looking out for as far as the water pump goes?

Yup, did this job on my rwd e92. It sucked. Took me 10 hours, I took my time as it was my first time doing a wp and replacing coolant and I was a bit nervous at the prospect of messing something up. I don't see how to get the wp out without pulling out the tstat, but I'm sure it can be done.

I have been driving it for a day lightly but im reading that is very dangerous.. nothing seems to be changed in regards to steaming etc? Could a waterpump code be set off even though the waterpump is still ok.. Aas in a disconnect pipe to the FMIC etc.. Just drawing at straws here as i cant be paying for all these repairs out of no where all at once ...

Yes the BMW one. But seriously how long they last seems random. Mine lasted for 116k miles. Hopefully the second one will too. At least I believe the replacement is warranted for 2 years unlimited mileage if done by a dealership.

Welcome to the club..lol
RE Coverage- Talk to your SA. My indy was able to get both pump and tstat covered from my extended warranty. These companies have a list of all major well known issues, so they wont fight it too much. Either way its not going to put a major dent on your wallet.
I was planning to do mine as preventative maintenance, when it went at 110K. I thanked the day I bought extended warranty lol

I drove my car with intermittent water pump codes/warning light for 3-4 weeks or several hundred miles. The warnings started coming progressively more frequent. I finally bit the bullet and replaced the pump and t-stat before I got stuck somewhere.

I pulled apart the old pump and sure enough, the rotor portion of the motor was damaged. It would have quit for good sooner than later.

Everything you listed other than oil cooler leak (which can be replaced with any number of common oil leaks) is just regular N54 failure stuff. Injectors, HPFP, low pressure fuel sensor, water pump, oil filter housing gasket, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, boost solenoids and sometimes turbos are all part of "accepted" routinely failing parts (did I miss any). Hell some even try to pass it off as maintenance.

I hear ya , just at 60km I would hope some of these issues would creep up a bit later ... 60km should be nothing on a 75k car..
