Exhaust gut after all deletes.
So i finally had my 335d in one piece back
![]() I was lucky and had connected everything back as it was, and it looks like everything as should be. What i was doing? Previously i had my car tuned, i removed EGR, i have installed catch can, and disabled SCR. The only part i had was exhaust, recently i had even some code related with some pressures, i ignored it as i will address it after exhaust fixed. I understand that a lot of people here are going for performance and extra 3 ponies in their cars. I am going for complete stock look, stock sound, just to make free flow for dirty cheap. Stock look - it is important here to pass inspection, as they are supposed to do "visual inspection", nobody is doing it but still better to be prepared. And i used to leave in NJ, they had cameras in the floor to check if catalytics were in place. |

Cut open, bought some exhaust pipe 3'' to 2 1/2'' adapter and 45 degree bend for 12$ in autozone.
And welded them into place. After that add as much mineral insulation as you can. On russian forums they call it resonator, but i believe it is very like muffler. |

Got a 12 pack and went to a friend who tig welded everything back using stainless steel rods.
Yes it is not a perfect weld, but who cares, nobody will see it in next 5-10 years? What i have noticed that engine revs much faster, noise is at same level, which exactly i was looking for. And now you can start yell on me ![]() |

Can you finally hear turbo whistle? Or is that muffled down? I am debating ongoing aftermarket turbo back to get that whistle. But I don't want the cabin drone on the freeway from an open exhaust. Can you comment of yours and who ever has turbo back exhaust do you have cabin drone?

How is the sound? Unonbtanium welding on Instagram has a few clips and you hear the whistle and the grunt but does it drone at highway speed? What does it sound like in cabin?

From post #4, the DOC is shown. You make comment of "tough to get through". Did you remove the DOC as well? There have been one or 2 that I know of that gutted the filter portion of the DPF but left the DOC alone for smell purposes. They also just welded the shell back shut without putting in the perforated tube that you added along with insulation. That is original I'll have to say.
Since you added the tube to the DPF, did you do the same with the SCR or it is just a hollow enclosure now? |

Do you keep the stickers on the tread of your tires when you buy them new or do you say, "Who cares? Sticker will be gone in the matter of minutes?"
![]() It's just silly to me and only takes a minute to clean up. Same for deburring. I guess I just like a clean job and this is all but that. Totally fine just not my cup of tea. Sometimes the hack-jobs work well, other times they don't. Not my car, I'm just a guy with an opinion like anyone else.

Ok this is a joke. Come on now guys we are grown adults. No one is a hack job for leaving a sticker that is going to melt away with heat over time. Lol. This is so childish. I am thankful he started this thread to show us the work involved. Kudos to him. This is a helpful thread and I wouldn't discount it.
Keep up the good work sir. ![]() |
