Wheel/suspension setup to maintain good ride quality?
Hey Guys,
I'm going to be ordering a 335i Coupe today and I'm already trying to plan out some mods. I'm going to drive quite a bit, mostly street but I will take the car to the track 2 or 3 times a year. I like to drive fairly aggressively but I do need to keep a good ride quality. I will have business associates in the car so I don't want it to be uncomfortable at all. If I can get a bit better ride than the sport setup, that would be great but keeping it at that level will work as well. I live in Southern California so I don't have much weather to worry about. Right now I'm considering CSL wheels. I'm a bit torn between 18 and 19 but I've read that going with 19's with non-run flat tires ends up with a bit better ride than the stock sport setup with rfts. I would also like to lower the car a bit. I definitely want to maintain (or improve) ride quality but I don't want to sacrifice performance. I'm thinking that H&R sport springs with the stock shocks will take care of this for me. Would you recommend the 18 or the 19" wheels? Which tires would you recommend? Do you guys think that the spring setup is the way to go or should I get Koni yellows or even a coilover setup? Price isn't my main concern but it's certainly a concern Thanks! |

coilovers IMO, PSS9/(PSS10 whenever thet are released for our cars) or KW V2's are what I am considering going for soon. That way you can dial the suspension in to your specific liking, especially for the track.

+1 on the pss9/10 or kw v2 coilovers, since you said you would be tracking your car and you said you want comfort as well. the coilovers will let you adjust for an agressive ride at the track, then back on the streets you can adjust it back to comfort. plus height is adjustable as well but just with a little bit of hassle.
i went with '18 csl, because i was thinking of tracking my car as well, and there are more tires you can choose for '18 and much cheaper also

I'd recommend going with the 19s. Most of our customers find the 18s are too small and do not fill out the wheel well. The 19s are a bit stiffer but not anything that you couldn't drive on every day.
For a comfortable non-coilover suspension setup, I would do the Koni FSDs with either the H&R Sports or Eibach Pro Kit. Both will give your car a nice drop but not make it impractical or bouncy. The FSDs are dual valved so they will ride comfortably under normal conditions and stiffen under cornering. For coilovers, I'd recommend doing either the PSS9s/10s or the KW V2s. Both are great setups but it is not necessarily crucial to get a coilover setup if you won't be adjusting it regularly. |
