GM's Le Mans Blue - E90 335i - Super Cool 2 STEP

Hi I'm GeneralMitch (lol).
19 year old male from London. I'm working in domain registration company learning Linux and VMware Server based roles.

My car history is still small because of young age but here is how it goes:
1st car at 17 was a MKIV Golf 1.8T 86k Miles I picked up just before was going to scrap for £300 and cleaned it up.

2nd car at 17 also was a BMW 330d E46 (my personal fave, had for more than a year and done the works)
3" Straight Pipe, Genuine Style 95 Alloys, Apple Car Play, Rebuilt Turbo, FMIC.

3rd car at 18 was a BMW 530d E60 (hated it)
4th car at 19 was a BMW 535d E60,(just wanted more rawness)
Straight Piped, DPF off, EGR off, I did the X-Car Link install, with reverse Camera & XBOX 360 install..

5th car at 19 was a 2JZ-GTE Toyota Aristo at roughly 65-70k Miles which was modded to hell!
The specs were immense:
3L Twin Turbo Inline 6 (Very similar to the 335i) from the Toyota Supra TT
Blitz Intercooler, Sard Aluminium Racing Rad Kit
TRD Engine Bay Strut Bar, TRD Big Brake 6 Piston Kit, TRD Instrument Cluster
TRD Anti-Roll Bar all underneath car.
Tom's ARC Canceller, Tom's Advox Coilovers
HKS Induction Kit
(Universal?) Gearbox Cooler Kit
GReddy Pulleys & Oil catch can for single turbo build (Race branded can't work out)
TRD Full exhaust
LED aftermarket taillights, CCFL/LED aftermarket headlights
Kranze Vishunu 3pc Split Alloys by WedsSport North America
Pioneer Double Din Electric Screen with 50GB HDD
2 x 7" Sun Visor Screens & a 3" screen below the steering wheel (don't ask me why)
HKS SSQV BOV, Whifbitz Decat 2.5" w/ Restrictor Ring
TRD Centre Box Removal & Pipe put in place
Fli 2400 Watt Sub & Amp

I loved it and wanted to keep it long term, but this had too many maintenance costs and running costs, was filling up £30-40 a day, and every second week something was going wrong.
After the entire Crankshaft Pulley shearing off, causing the power steering pump, AC, and much more to fail I thought this was enough and had to sell as couldn't maintain on my budget!

Bought an X5 diesel to keep me going for a while, till I could decide which car to buy next.. Was either 135i 335i or M5 E60.. My dream car is an E60 M5 with the V10 however couldn't get anywhere near the price I wanted for insurance so had to postpone those dreams!

So here I am on the E90 forum with my new purchase -my 7th car in 2 years-, a 335i E90! It has Lemon/White interior with black carpets, Paddle shifters, Proffessional iDrive with Sat Nav, Heated Seats, Xenon headlights, and much more!

It is LeMans Blue, with Mv3 Alloys, full BMW Service History with a folder with so many invoices, its pouring out!
It has 108k miles when I purchased 2 weeks ago, and is close to 111k now! (I joy drive a lot!)
It's currently in the body shop, getting an entire LCI front end, keeping my current headlights!
Looking to JB4 it very soon (hopefully purchasing from a fellow forum member soon if he accepts my offer!)!
Near future plans would be some tints, VRSF downpipes, Wagner or VRSF FMIC (want to purchase soon but unsure of which FMIC, help pls!), a CIC retrofit with combox or if no CIC, those custom firmware DVB-T boxes from Russia or Europe!

This is by far the best handling car I've owned, I've noticed I can chuck it around corners at stupid speeds as it gives me so much confidence! Might be due to the Pirelli P Zero's! Really want to attempt some Track Days/Santa Pod & fingers crossed if all is running well, a trip to the Nurburgring! Works out near £22 a lap!

Long term goals would be some Big Brake kits, I saw a K Sport Big Brake Kit 360mm if I'm not wrong, coupled with DS2500 Pads, should be good! I was prepared for an M3 Front End Build but was missing one thing! Genuine M3 Wings! Was quoted over £800 for them, so maybe will do in future if I can source a breaking M3 for cheap! So just gone LCI for now! Maybe a decent sounding exhaust kit, Some decent suspension, Flared/Widened Arches, Some super wide WORK Wheels!

All cars I've had previously didn't hit my satisfaction rating apart from my 330d E46 however I have a really really good feeling about this one, & hopefully I can keep this long term and attempt to complete my goals!

Sorry for the long post! Here are some pics!
General Mitch

Behold my 335i!

Holy moly, this is like something from a book, 19 years old you say!

Dude, well done, you've already made it at 19 to own those cars and be able to mod them, you are very fortunate.

I look forward to seeing what you do with the 335

Thanks man! Means a lot to me! I started working part time as soon as I left secondary school at 16 and after college I joined the Microsoft Apprenticeship Program, I live at home with my parents and help out where I can, but other than this I have no expenditure! So I spend most of my money on my cars, & car related things, as I know I will get old with many responsibilities quick!

I see you have a 330d E90! How does it compare to other cars you've owned? My E46 330d was the most reliable car I've owned, had it for just under a year!

I absolutely love it so far, the best car I've owned 100%. I'm married with a kid and live in my own home so I have lots of expenses which means I can't mod much.

The 330d is an awesome balance of power and economy. I fill up around £35 a week and I do around 250 miles or so which is perfect for me.

Hi Nahid and welcome. I have a 19 year old son who is jealous of your car history already! Never heard of the Aristo I need to Google! You've come to the right place for your latest car - this forum is excellent. I Look forward to seeing what you do to the 335.

Yes yes, welcome to the mad house Nahid, lets see how far you push the 335, nice history of cars there I must say.

Looking forward to seeing what you got planned for this.

We make do with what we can! Have you managed to remap or take out the DPF yet? I've noticed first hand DPF removal on my 535d I could hear my turbos a lot more but didn't get any difference in smoke! I believe each car is different, so if taken care of shouldn't smoke at all!

I managed to full tank on the first evening which cost £55 as there was a little fuel in there already, managed to get 110 miles! But that was with a super happy right foot! Managed to get 200 miles out the second tank though and had 350 miles reading on the On Board Display for the next tank however waiting for it to come out the body shop with the LCI front end

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Toyota Aristo was the only other car to come equipped stock with the 2JZ-GTE other than the Supra! It has rear wheel steer but came cancelled out from Japan! It's a big car so couldn't chuck it everywhere and with it being so low and me living in London with constant speedhumps everywhere, it wasn't practical! Auto Sequential Box was by far one of the best and most responsive kicking I had driven, but has to DCT at the top of the list!

How does the 335d compare to previous cars you've owned? My 535d was brilliant to start off with, then came the problems.. Injector issues, and had a huge crack down the nearside of my engine somewhere which was causing an oil leak of about a litre per week!

Ha ha. So super active that even when people move on to non e9x cars they keep posting in here. Gotta love that.

I had an E39 M5 before the 335d. Biggest regret ever selling it. There was a real occasion every time I started the V8 with a straight through exhaust. Totally gutted as I see they have appreciated to almost double what I sold it for.....

The reality is I still get serious performance from the 335d with practicality. It got old fast filling up every 200 miles in the M5. Ouch. I easily get 450 miles out of each tank with the 335d, it's beautiful to drive and crazy fast when pushed. Plus I love the looks. Still looks contemporary to me.

My neighbour has an e60 M5. It sounds amazing but I think the shape is looking dated. Plus I hate the back end with the silly flaps above the exhaust. That V10 sounds amazing with his eisenmann exhaust.

Next and final project keeper for me will be a 911 turbo plus a runaround!

Remap is on the cards but I'm fearful of companies not willing to accept the risk if they damage the ECU which would be expensive as hell to replace. The ECU needs to come out and be tampered with for the LCI 30d's to be remapped.

My car has low mileage, circa 49k so I don't really want to remove the DPF. If it was at 100k and ready to go, I would have it straight out. The LCI front end will look absolutely insane! I had the pre-lci 335d before the 330d which was a nice car but I couldn't live with mid 30's MPG for a daily

I've only heard good things about JB4, no doubt you will get even less miles to the tank when you enjoy it!

Very nice buddy, a 335i will certainly help relieve you of all that expendable income

I was spending ££££s on my 67 beetle when I was 19, it's great when you've only got your cock to keep

Sooo..

Little update!

Been to check out the car at the body shop, the LCI front end is practically complete.
All parts arrived on time, and are sprayed and everything is on minus the front bumper (need to source some headlight washer covers). Will need a polish after, despite it looking amazing already! No sneak pics to follow!

On another note... This happened!!

3" Decat Downpipes

BMS JB4 G5 & BMS DCI from fellow forum member GeorgeC88 - Thanks for the quick delivery, never got to message you!

This will all be installed before the car comes out, which fingers crossed will be tonight, or worse case tomorrow noon! Can't wait to tear up some tyres!

Many people recommend upgrading the charge pipes so that is next, hopefully wont get too heavy footed until I can afford some!
I've read that "there are 2 different kinds on the N54. One has diverter valves and a blowoff valve from the factory and is noticeably more robust.
Then there is one with no blow off valve and is more flexible, that is the one that is more likely to break."

How would I find out which one mine has? Any clues tips would be appreciated!

Sooo..
Been a few months since I've posted so here are a few more updates on how I'm getting on..
I've fitted the Decats, JB4, and DCI's a little while ago.
Car has been in and out of the garage as I'm a bit lazy and had a few more maintenance bits needed.
All I can say regarding the JB4 is WOW!! Every 335i needs one of these! It complements the car so well!

I'm currently running on Map 2 & I drive my car hardddd!
If you guys read my previous posts you would notice I managed to get 100 miles out of a full tank!
You can really tell the difference when the maps are on and off.
Attempted a top speed run (in Mexico) but let off around 140 as I got the Engine Fault Reduced Power message, which didn't allow me to boost as much.
But after turning off and on, code cleared and never returned?
I put it down to just too much strain. But I'm a bit wary now on higher speeds..

Treated myself to some carbon fibre STYLE grills I saw on ebay on sale for like £30!
Thought why not? As it was my birthday in July so now I'm 20!
1 more year for cheaper insurance!

So skip forward a few weeks..
Not much more difference on the car apart I got myself a new bonnet vinyl!
Some f###er had sprayed my car with some sort of gold decorative spray. I actually expected it to be a lot worse since I live in East London but I managed to get it out. Some pics follow:

Before

After

Mid August..

Bad news for me!
ABS Pump has failed..
Met up with some friends, did a car day changing a few bits here and there including traction sensors and ABS sensors but unfortunately no luck.
Codes hadn't cleared. Which means now I must get either new ABS control unit or get mine refurbished.
Found a company called BBA Reman down in Kent not too far from me so will need to get the unit out and sent to them,
But I drive my car daily so it's very inconvenient for me so will have to work something out.

So few days down the line I've ordered the JB4 2 Step Relay / NLS for the manual transmission!!!!

...hold on, my cars an auto.
Anyway received in the post super quick even though it was from overseas and made a start to fit!

IT WORKS!! Initially I was quite angry after I fit when I found it wasn't working to the RPM I set it at through the JB4.
But I missed one crucial point! You must be under full throttle when using!
(See youtube links below for some chavvy but cool sounds!)

I managed to find some time to fit my new front lip, which I had to cut and alter a bit to fit onto the E90 as it wasn't designed for it.
Also attended the Auto Grüppe: Summer Run 2016 which was a convoy of some very nice stanced cars driving from Beaconsfield Services down to the Portsmouth South-Seafront.

Some pics are as followed. Please excuse quality (crappy iPhone pics with some enhancement)

Cool pics of my '90

Lol, by 19 I had worked my way up to an XT 250 motorbike. Wonder what you will be driving by the time you reach the midlife crisis. Isn’t the insurance crippling?

Anyway welcome and good for you.
