First FBO mod?

Okay, quick opinion poll --

I have decided which parts I want to start bolting on, but I am trying to take it easy on my wallet and pace myself! So, the FMIC I want is about $850. And, if I combine downpipes, charge pipe and BOV, that combo is also about $850.

Which would you do first, FMIC? Or chargepipe/BOV & downpipe combo?

I live in socal, hot summer coming up. But, I feel like downpipe is the best bang for buck, and I don't want to blow a chargepipe and have my car down. So, I am leaning towards the chargepipe downpipe combo as the first move. Thoughts?

I would start with the intercooler first since your are in a warm weather state. Then I would go with dps, if your charge pipe doesn't blow up before those installs get that last.

Definitely get a chargepipe on there first, just for peace of mind.

Chargepipe first. My CP blew recently and my car was immobile for a week.

You can get an ER charge pipe and use the stock diverter valves. That's what I'm using. They are located in Monterey Park so maybe you can give them a call and drop by. I have their intercooler as well and my intercooler doesn't heat soak anymore. Downpipes doesn't matter to tbh VRSF are nice. I used them for about 20k miles already.

Since you want to pace your spending, you would be well advised starting with charge pipe because they are known to fail, particularly under higher boost.. You may also want to plan for walnut blast, coils and plugs. Seems folks who are tuning end-up doing these items pretty soon there after.

Thanks for the input. As far as the maintenance items, walnut blasting is done already. I am at 34,000 miles, is it time for plugs & coils or can I let that go for a bit? Car runs good, although every once in awhile the engine misses/hesitates under hard acceleration. No codes.

FMIC first for sure.

Hesitation can be plugs, coils or even injectors.

If you are still on original plugs start with those.

Why not start with the MHD tune. That will be the best bang for the $$. And see what issues come up ( coils, plugs, injectors) before spending $1K on an intercooler. All the mods listed won't give you 20% of the power a tune will. This is the way I always started moding my N54's. Had 3 so far.

I probably should have mentioned, I am on MHD Stage 1 tune already.

The occasional hesitation I mentioned, used to happen before the tune as well. Used to be worse, but improved after walnut blasting. FWIW, the dealer checked the injectors and said they were fine (I know that may not mean much).

Start with the plugs. You are due for plugs as they should be replaced every 25K miles.

I would not spend 850 on an fmic unless your are building an all out balls to the walls build with stage 3 clutch and pure stage 2s / equivalent, trying to eek out every last ounce of performance possible. Or, if your a real stickler about where things were made, highest quality bla bla.

You can buy a vrsf fmic, 5in stepped or 7in for around 400, dps for 300, and spend some the 150 I saved you on either new plugs, or put it towards a new charge pipe.

VRSF is a great product (and one of our top sellers). It is offered at a very nice price for a great value / price combo

That being said each customer / car is different and there is no one intercooler that will be the best option for all cases

Intercooler, you're in SoCal and summer is approaching. I'm in NorCal and know how hot it can get down there and up here.

A chargepipe should really be last or until it blows as it's a peace of mind mod IMO. Intarcoolar.
