Im Thinking About To Set H&r Sport Spring Or Coilover Set Up.
I Just Want To Lower Car For Look.

+1

I totally agree with mantis!

I was going to go with just the H&R sports springs with the ZSP shocks and read a lot of bad reviews. That's why I went ahead and bought the Koni Yellows to go with the H&R sports springs. Let me just say, that it's rides and performs really well compared to my non-zsp and also the zsp equipped cars that I have driven.

A reason why I didn't go with coilovers is because I don't think that I will be taking full advantage of them. Even the setup I have right now, I will not be changing the damper settings, ever.

Good luck with whatever you go with.

I agree with everyone, you gotta do shocks too, but since youre only lowering for looks, you can probably keep you stockies, but I wouldnt.

I disagree.

23k miles on stock ZSP struts with Tein S-Tech springs...1.2 inch drop. They ride a hair harder than the H&Rs, but my shocks show no sign of being blown.

I took a rear out recently at my job and checked it...still tight as the day I bought the car.

It all depends where you drive it....and Ive gone through every borough of Long Island, down to VA, CT, the Poconos, NYC, NJ, you name it.

I've bent a few wheels, but havent had a suspension issue.

Bogoshipyo will be putting sports on ZSPs this weekend..I will find out how it rides compared to mine.

so if I have a e92 with sport package it is NOT recommended to just get H&R Sport springs? or is it ok?

The amount of time your stock shocks last is highly dependent on road conditions and driving style. I have customers who last over 50k on stock shocks with upgraded springs.

With that said, I do recommend replacing the shocks at the same time if you have the funds. This will reduce the amount of labor charges you pay by replacing it all at once.

installed the H&R sport spring at 5500 miles, currently have 11800 on the mileage.. The shock still ride fine. I drive pretty hard on the freeway with potholes everywhere.

i have HR sports w/ stock shocks..
they get bouncy at higher speeds, but in the canyons they work nicely...
if you got the dough, get coilovers..
I DIY'd mine so i will run w/ them until i feel that new shocks are needed.
keep in mind that i have had my 335 for 1.5yr and only have 9.5k mi.
your in LA, i would get coilovers.

My advice, treat your car right. Accordingly, do it right the first time. Just because some people haven't had problems with stock shocks on lowering springs, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. ZSP or non-zsp shocks are not/never designed for the stiffer spring rates of aftermarket lowering springs, just as non zsp shocks are not designed for zsp springs.

When BMW or any company offers a sport package, it ALWAYS comes with revalved shocks to accomodate the .5 or .6 inch lowering springs.

Ok, here is my input from pure experience. H&Rs and stock shocks is not a great idea, and I dont mean because the shock will wear out sooner, which may happen, but its not my primary concern.

The stock shocks cant handle the spring rates of the H&Rs, meaning that when you hit a dip or lurch at speed, the shocks wont be strong enough to settle the body of the car and it will dip up and down more than it should, and certainly more that it did when the stock springs were on.

Other than that (which is a big deal in my book), for casual, conservative driving, you can live with stock shocks, but why ruin the driving nature of the car just for looks and to save a few bucks.

All of our cars cost between 35k and 50k. Why cheap out and not spend the extra $600-$700 bucks and get good shocks too, it doesnt make much sense.

And if you MUST keep the stock shocks, at least go with Eibach springs, I hear they are a bit softer and more like stock and thereby have less of a damaging effect on your ride.

G/L with which ever route you take. I was in your shoes once too saying I cant spend that much on shocks or coilovers, but once I felt my car on good coilovers, I know that its the best way. Eat Top Ramen for 6 months if you have to, its mors than worth it!

Wouldn't getting springs + shocks get the price closer to coilovers?
