2007 BMW E90 330d Manual Common Problems

Hi everyone,

I am going to buy a 2007 BMW E90 330d Manual. It runs 120k. This is the first time to buy a diesel engine car in my life. I did test drive yesterday, the gear box and clutch were very smooth and nice. However, I found the engine bay had some oil stain stayed at the bottom. Unfortunately I forgot to take photos.

I have some questions shown as below,

1. According to the issue above, can anyone tell me what is the problems (Seals/pipes)?
2. What is the common problems for this vehicle (M57 engine)?
3. I am located in Perth. Can anyone introduce a reliable diesel mechanical workshop for me?

I did research the websites but it made me more confuse.
I wish to listen other users/ owners experience.
Looking forwards for anyone reply!!!

Just to clarify, you are in Western Australia, not WA state. Of course, we do not get 330d in the States. You may wish to approach a European subforum as they would have more experiences with 330d. Although, the engine is similar, there are some important differences.

I knew that is UK imported. Australia version started from 2009 (I guess). By the way, thanks for Yozh reply!

Hi Antonie,

I own a since 2007 a 330d e92, 144K km on the clock now and like your choice it has a manual gearbox (the best, the reason i didn't get a 335d).

1) No problem with seals,
2) Common problem and maybe the reason you found oil is the intake manifold with swirl flaps. They start leaking around 80K km. Easy to fix deleting them.
Take care also to EGR and coolant thermostat as they remain open when old. In that case you won't regenerate the FAP as required.
3)I can't answer this as i'm located in France but the maintenance is easy to do by yourself. Only oil flush, brake fluid bleeding, brake pads... I did a gearbox and differential oil flush after 7 years and 100K km but it was useless as oils were still clear as new.

Fantastic car, remapped at 100K km, 231-»288hp, 500nm-»625 270km/h gps speed. No worries with gearbox.
