No comment on timing, but shit happens when you drive like an asshole in parking lots. No wonder cops are always so mad, it's the people doing stupid shit who get their attention.

timing chain problems aren't really a known issue, HOWEVER as you admit, you we're driving the shit out of it, 99% of people aren't going to WOTbox their car, and with timing correlation codes, it's basically a no brainer, timing is off, you'll be very lucky if it's just chain jumping.

Hopefully you got the donuts and skids on vid, so there's at least some good times coming out of the experience.
Sorry to hear about the motor (even if you were being a jackass, but who isn't at some point in life) keep us updated on the outcome |

I had no idea this could be an issue:
http://redlinespeedworx.com/bmw-f8x-...k-hub-upgrade/ The m4 shares the same sprocket part number as us. The hub part number looks different though.

Wow this sucks. I remember doing doughnuts for days in my 99 mustang gt. I feel like a lot of cars don't hold up to that kind of abuse.
For everyone bashing OP, we've all probobly done this at one time or another. And wether you want to admit it or not, doughnuts in a wide open empty parking lot are fun as hell. I just wouldn't do them in a bimmer bc I don't think it will hold up too well, personally.

+1. Everybody raves about the N54's reliability until someone does some spirited tire burning and then all of a sudden it's blamed as an inevitable failure. Good luck OP. I'd be curious to see if it wasn't somehow VANOS solenoid related. Last edited by theweebabySeamus; 07-07-2016 at 03:47 PM.. |

UPDATE: got word from my Indy today, crank hub did indeed slip and cause incorrect timing. They're replacing the parts now along with some other preventative maintenance items, and will perform a compression check when the timing is reset.
They told me internal damage was "unlikely" but I'll wait for the compression check results. |

i don't like saying this, but i'm going to bet you bent exhaust valves.. for all intensive purposes your head is done.. considering your not doing the work yourself and the work involved.. realistically your best bet is to buy a cheap motor.

I'd get a VAC stage 3 head, not a used motor. |

Also, I did not experience any persistent misfires associated with bent valves. I was able to limp my car about 40 miles from the dealer to my indy, very very slowly. From the noises I was hearing, and the codes that were pulled every minute or so on the drive, I'd guess my motor internals are fine but chain guides and/or tensioner are destroyed.
