245 square 17 on 157s?

I'm so sick of the constant flats, bent rims, etc. with my stock 230s... who thought that was a good idea in DC? (I didn't buy car new). am thinking of going 245/40 or 45 all around on my winter set (157s which are 17X8 I believe) DWS in that size looks like they'd fit and all four would be less than a pair of 275/30-19s which I'm going to need soon... even though I'm running 245/275 I still bent a front rim on a pothole recently and destroyed the tire. sick of this...

anyone done it? thoughts?

245/45/17 on a 17x8 works perfect. I have 245/40/18 on a 18x8 (exact same size as the 17'' setup, just larger wheel) and it's great.

Will going to the 245 width, for the all-season DWS, be "alot" worse in the snow vs. the 235/45? ANyone have any experience with 245/45/17 all-season in the winter months?

OK thanks guys. I may just go for it. I got another "low tire" warning when I left for work this morning and I'm already running one of my winter tires on the LR as that tire won't hold air. I have one patched front tire and one replaced front tire. If I can't get both rears fixed inexpensively I think I am going to punt and order four 245/45R17s and be done with this whole sordid mess.

The 19s are great when the only roads you drive on are smooth and flat but for urban driving they are ludicrous. I thought that upsizing from 225/255 to 245/275 would give enough cushion to keep them acceptable but I think the 230s are going into storage until I either get another car or move.
