Why are you going for these cheap watches? I'm assuming because thier cheap and Automatic.
While I applaud your decision to get an automatic (IMHO a watch is not a watch, unless its an automatic), you should defintley go for something a bid better than "Wohler" or "S.U.G.". Try looking into a Tag or Invicta, they tend to run cheaper than most automatic watches but at the same time are much better in quality than the aforementioned ones. |

I'm not a huge fan of the carbon fiber look of those watches. Since when do you need to use carbon fiber to save "weight" on a watch?
Both these brands of watches are "internet" watches. What I mean by that is...they are commonly sold on ebay. The vendors claim they are worth $2000+ (very inflated MSRP) but they are selling them for $120 or so. Basically it's a bit of a scam...because these watches are not worth $2000+. Unfortunately...you actually get what you pay for. Usually the movement is cheap quality as well as other parts of the watch. If you don't want to spend much money, answer this: do I want a watch that just looks good? Or do you want a watch that has automatic movement? If you want a watch that looks good...then you can probably keep looking and find something with dependable quartz movement that looks better than these watches. If you want a cheap watch with automatic movement, then get a Seiko 5. You can buy tools and tinker with it a bit (regulate it) so it is very accurate. Save up the money for a decent watch for later. Just my thoughts tho... A third option could be...getting a AAA grade fake watch from Asia. But that kinda defeats the purpose of getting a nice watch IMO. |

sorry im a noob at watches but SUG and Wholer aren't reputable? i thought they were. my other choices were tag and panerai. i like the panerai number and glow at night and the tags look nice too.
so SUG and Wholer isn't even a well known watch? |

Wohler, SUG, Tavan, Balmar, Louis Bolle, and Bernoulli are just a few names of cheaply made watches with good marketing to make it look like they are worth it. Apparently SUG has made a watch called the Nautalis that is decent...but it is discontinued.
I don't know much about watches...probably tonnes of people on here that know more about them than me that can make you some good suggestions. Personally...I think watches are kinda like cars. If you are in the market for a cheaper watch...try to stick with something with Japanese movement like Seiko or Citizen. Unfortunately most Japanese movement (Seiko Kinetic and Citizen EcoDrive) are actually quartz movement and not true automatic/mechanical movements. There are exceptions tho...like the infamous Seiko 5 and Spring Drive. If you can afford to splurge...then try to stick Swiss (or European) movement. Obviously Rolex, Omega, and TAG Heuer are usually the most popular brands. Breitling (German edit: Swiss actually) is also quite well respected. Movado and Rado are also good brands (altho IMO I don't like their designs). Tonnes of other good respected brands out there. Panerai is also a good brand. Personally...if I had the money I'd get a Seiko Spring Drive from Japan...IMO much better than just a regular automatic watch. But I don't have the money to justify spending that much for just a watch. But to each to their own. Some would say I was crazy... Then again there are guys out there that buy Ulysse Nardin, Cartier or Piaget for mucho $$$$. *shrug* Basically...do some more research...and buy something that makes you happy. Thing about a good watch is, they actually APPRECIATE. Hard for a car guy to fathom this. My Aquagraph is retailing for almost twice what I paid for it, if you can find one (and I bought mine from a brick and mortar AD). TAG, Omega, Breitling - all good "beginer" watches that will likely be worth at least what you paid in 5 years, if not more, assuming you take care of them. Some of the cheaper TAG's may not appreciate as well, but the models starting over $1500 will probably do well.

For $300, I'd be looking at Seiko. They have some good looking stuff, and it'll last forever.

If you are looking for something more cheaper, then I can highly recommend Seiko's Sportura line. Perhaps something like this? It has a sporty looking design with more generous splashes of red. You can get good deals from reputable watch dealers on ebay. Unfortunately it's only quartz powered. There are kinetic movements in the Sportura line...but as I have said kinetic is basically a pendulum powered quartz movement. The Seiko will definately not hold it's value tho. But you can probably beat it up and it will work dependably...and you can pick it up for much cheaper than either the Tag Heuer or Omega. Really depends on your budget. In the US Seiko is considered a lower/budget brand. But they were the first manufacturer to bring the quartz movement technology into the wristwatch. They know a thing or two about watches. I like to think of them as the "Honda" of watches. In Japan, Seiko has luxury lines called the Grand Seiko and Credor. Kinda off topic...but take a look at this video of the Seiko Spring Drive. This is (relatively) new tech that will be the next big thing in horology. Look at how smooth that second hand sweeps...smoother than a Rolex! Only thing is they need to improve the design on some of the watches... |

I don't know much about watches either but looking at it on the internet, this Bell & Ross catches my eyes and it has swiss movement. However, in today economy, I would not go out and invest in such a watch.
Only if I win the lottery...until then I should just continue dreaming about this eye candy time piece

get yourself a Breitling and call it a day, those watches are no where near the price tag. Get a watch will will keep its value, a true time piece. Dont just spend money on a watch that 'looks' cool. Or you can also get an Omega they are great watches.
