335xi N55 stock torque results - is this normal ?

I was looking at doing a stage 1 upgrade to get a boost on my 2011 335xi - I understand that you can get approx 60 extra HP & about 70 extra ftlb of Torque. Since the stock comes with 300 HP & 309 Torque, I decided to give it a few tests to see what I get get out of the car before the upgrade, as a baseline - I would then run the tests again and see exactly how much I've gained...logical?

So, to ensure I have the app correctly calibrated, I keyed in all the stock info and ran a quick test on speed and rpms, comparing with the dashboard - everything was in synch.

So now I switched on to the torque & HP dials and kicked the car around for 1/2 hr in various scenarios...I've heard that most manufacturers bump up their advertised numbers, so I was expecting to achieve overall lower numbers - while I only managed to pull only 244 HP, the torque blew me away, as I managed to hit 377 ft lb (see pic attached - the needle and numbers show the highest values registered) - and that on the highway, in Sports mode and I never went into the "red rpm" zone

So my question - is this normal? Given that I'm getting over 20% more torque than expected, has BMW "under published" their numbers?...

Just curious if anyone else tried the Torque app with similar results? If that's the case, I can't imagine what a stage 1 will produce

This app is about as reliable as an N63 motor.

NO, this may not be a professional dynamometer, but I checked the speed, revs, oil, battery and they all matched the dashboard reading exactly...so I am therefore assuming all the other readings to be correct (in lieu of spending $400 to get an accurate reading)

So, if you could share with me the data you have that leads you to believe this is not a reliable app and the readings are not correct, I'd love to give the developer a smack and ask for my $4.95 back.

P.S. Today I pushed the envelope further and got even better results (updated pic)

No, that isn't a correct reading. I'd ask for my money back. Do you think a $5 app can really do a similar job as an actual dyno? If that was the case then we would all use that app. I have the same year and model you do. I didn't hit that torque until after the JB4 and maybe a dp.

Did you measure your HP/Torque before and after the upgrade?...just curious what your actual stock measurements were

Do you realize how that app works? It uses the little gyro inside your phone to try and guess at the G forces applied to it and then guesstimates torque from that. That app is definitely incorrect. I have used those types of apps in the past and they are pretty horrible. The other things you mentioned come right from the OBD port, so they will be correct. The HP and Torque will be way off though.

Ok, this now makes sense. Thx for the explanation...I'll be waiting for the MHD flasher for N55 in the meantime
