tire help

i've done a few searches, and also perused tirerack.com, but i thought it might be best to hear the latest and greatest..

i have abt 29k miles on my e90 330i (OEM sport package wheels and susp), and the OEM Bridgestone RFTs are almost gone in the rear. the fronts still have some life left. i had a couple of questions:

-is there another, cheaper RFT out there that perhaps has a harder compound (and hence, longer life)?

-i might go the spare route and buy one of those Leatherworks spare kits. in that case, does anyone have suggestions for NON-RFT tires that are relatively cheap with a decent treadwear rating? since i'm not ever driving at 10th/10ths, i'm ok with losing a bit of performance

-if i replace both the rears (perhaps w/ a different brand), can i run the OEM fronts for a while longer? as long as both rears are changed, i dont see why mixing tires should be a problem. since the setup is staggered, i would never be rotating the tires anyways

thanks in advance

I would go the non-RFT route (replace all 4 tires) & carry a BMW Mobility kit.

snag some good all seasons, i had some Toyo Proxes 4's on my TSX before i got the bmw and they were great handling and good treadwear (not in the snow though).

Although I have never used Kumho on my ride, I rode in my buddy's 99 Eclipse spyder with those tires, and all I can say is it feels okay. A little bit more noise than I expected, but good bang for your money.

Personally, I would try out either BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 or Yokohama AVS ES100. I have heard great reviews on them, and the prices are fair.

I know the people on this forum would recommend either Goodyear Eagle F1 or the Michelin PS2. Those tires are too expensive for me to burn, I am poor.

General Exclaim UHP has 380 treadwear rating and very good in incremental weather.

i think i'll probably get the kumho all season tire (i think its the ecsta SPX). hopefull it'll show up at tirerack.com soon.

did you guys goto the dealer for installation, or a tirerack.com recommended installer? i went thru the tirerack.com installer back when i had my prelude, and it turned out ok. just want to know if there is something weird or different abt installing tires on an e90 (330i w/ sport pkg, and the 18" wheels that come w/ that package)

thanks
