Almost signed the paperwork, but wait, what?
I had a longer post but it got lost somehow so I'll just give cliffs.
I have muliple quotes for a 335i coupe base w/ only black leather and titanium silver metallic paint being the only options w/ aluminum trim @ $40,990 and one quote for *gasp* $100 less. All seems pretty good. What's your opinion? The main question is this, one dealer said come look at a demo turn in, 335i coupe, space gray metallic, coral red leather, light popular wood trim, sport package and premium package w/ heated seats w/3500miles. They wanted ~$45k but I got them to $41,400 and they would give me an aluminum trim set to install myself. I figured deal... we started going through the paperwork and it comes out that it's an 07 (after me multiple times calling it an 08 w/o correction) and I would only get the balance of the warranty that started in Oct 06. I said, "no", and explained that yes it was my assumption that my asking that it would be sold as a *new* car would include the warrenty starting from the date of purchase. They were throwing in a allot of maybe's and if's "we do's" to still sale me the car. Looking back at the numbers and now realizing it was an 07 I feel it wouldn't have been a good deal and was wise to walk away. I just wanted some more seasoned people to look at it and let me know what you think. |

I think it's a good thing you walked away. You would be losing 1.5 years of warranty.
Have you considered doing an ED? Since you live in MD, at least the car will arrive earlier than us in the Southwest. |

If they would CPO it, it may be worth considering, but you are probably better off just ordering it new. It sounds like you don't want many options which is cool. Just order it new, just the way you want it.

I think dealerships, at least where I am, are desparate for sales. I'm getting calls to my cell phone from pesky salespeople--they must be mining BMW's (corp) database.
I haven't tried because I'm not in the market, but these desparate salespeople remind me of realtors when real estate first turned south. All of a sudden they were trying to follow-up and see "if there's anything I need." Funny they didn't do that when they were collecting their 30k commision for doing next to nothing! Anyway, if I were in the market, I'd offer 3500 off list just to see what happened. If they took it right away, I'd shop around and bump the discount up. If not, I'd shop around and lower it. It is a buyer's market so no need to feel pressured and not shop around imho. |

Never really thought about ED due to having been to germany a few times and I know I'm going back next year a few more times.
The dealer called me and left a message, I called them back and said it's not going to happen. I'm ordering from another dealer next Tuesday, the person I've been talking to is out for medical reasons and I told her I'd rather just go to her. Reason being, out of the dealers I talked to she was the first one to not BS me in the least and give me what *seems* to be the best price I'm going to get from talking to people and having to negotiate other dealers to the same price and they wouldn't/"couldn't go lower. Too the dealer is the only one that has actually been recommended to me, Towson BMW of Maryland. BTW, the dealer I was talking about was Russel... I decided to give them a chance after never having a good experience with them from their subaru sells staff, service, or body shop. The sells person I was working with is IMO top notch... he just needs to go some where else. And I should have known better myself than to even give them a shot, but at least I know that no part of Russel is worth doing business with. |
