Foam pads, Zaino application

Just a couple of questions:

How does everyone clean their pads for the Orbital after use?

What do you use to condition the pads when using zaino?

I have the following questions regarding Zaino:

1) After claying the car, do you wipe off with microfiber towel, or buff out?

2) I will be applying PCS fusion with the polisher after claying, Do I use the polisher until it dries, and then wipe off with microfiber towel?

3) After the PCS fusion, what is the correct method of applying and removing the ZAIO?

3) When applying Z5 pro, should I apply with the polisher? should I remove with the polisher? If I remove with the polisher, should I use a different pad?

I read the sticky, but did not catch these details. I am used to basic waxing..ie putting wax on the car, letting it dry and taking it off. I am just confused as to the application of the separate Zaino product applications.

Thanks!

Addressing the questions one at a time --

I clean my buffer pads with liquid soap and water, then let them air dry. You can spin them to sling out any remaining water. People use a toothbrush to get out any dried pieces of polish.

Before applying Z2 or Z5, I spritz the pad with Z6. I also occasionally give the pad another quick spray while I'm applying, until the pad has enough product on it that it applies easier. I use a terry pad for Zaino, but I'm sure a yellow foam pad would work fine.

Now for your numbered questions:

1) I use QD and buff while I'm claying.
2) Polish until the polish breaks down, then buff off with a MF.
3) I don't know / don't use ZAIO. Other Zaino products are wipe on, wipe off. Very simple to use.
4) If you apply Z5 with a buffer, use a blue pad. If you remove, use a wool pad COVERED WITH A MF BONNET. I apply and remove by hand. It is just as easy and quick. I used to think removing Z2/Z5 was a PITA, but it turns out I was just using way too much product.

Zaino and other sealants are applied and removed the same way as wax. It shouldn't be too difficult for you, except that it's harder to see while you are applying it, and you should use very very little product.

Washing the car after claying.

BK,

Thanks! I just washed the car with dawn, and clayed half of the car.

I couldn't resist, and polished the hood with the Zanio PC fusion and the orbital buffer. Got rid of many scratches. However there are still a few remaining, but not nearly as bad. I didn't totally screw it up, and it looks better than before, you can't beat that.

Next, I applied the Z-AIO, and then the Z-5 polish, followed by the gloss enhancer. That hood is soooo smooth, and glossy. I still have small chips, etc, but I am not looking for perfection on my wife's daily driver. the car is 4 years old, and she is not worried about it. She says that it looks great though.

So tomorrow I clay the rest of the car and apply the rest of the products...

One more question...

Is it absolutely necessary to wash the car after claying? I used Eagle 1 QD as my lube for the clay, and did not realize this washing step for the hood. I guess the purpose for washing is to get rid of the lube, but I did not do that..Is my Zaino totally screwed now?

Thanks,

John

Rewashing is to remove any clay residue. I'm lazy, so I don't do it. If you're polishing after claying, I don't see the point of rewashing because the polish will take it off. If you aren't polishing, a Z-6 wipedown before using Z-2 or Z-5 would take it off.

Someone with more experience may chime in. Certainly, many people rewash the car after claying, and it can't hurt. I don't know if your QD has any fillers that would hurt the bond for the sealant, but I seriously doubt rewashing makes much of a difference versus going over it quickly with some Z-6.
