BMW mount for portable nav

Hi,

Does any one know if it's only the BMW branded portable nav unit which works with the official behind centre console mount?

I seem to recall the GPS system is a re branded Garmin so might work with other Garmins. You'd have to check the ball connector. I'm sure I have seen people use the mount and butcher the fitting and glue it to any old GPS to work in the mount.
