...said one of the adult children, upon seeing the vehicle posted in "My Garage".
2016 VW Golf Sportwagen 1.8TSI S. A performance downgrade from my 328i, for sure. Still, fun to drive (fun with a little 'f'). Very versatile car, lots of cargo space, low center of gravity and light weight 3100 lbs. I like it ![]() Has some sportiness potential with sticker tires and maybe a tune. Stock tires are economy focused and give up grip early. Tunes are out there, APR and Burger JB1 for starters. ************************************* It's been tons of fun on this forum, as you can tell by my post count. I cut my teeth on car-modding and learned some DIY skills in the process. I am grateful to many of you for your friendship and knowledge sharing. Couldn't have done it without the generous members of e90post. THANKS so much! Bill |

At least it's a wagon. Was something wrong with the BMW?

Nothing major, but timing of new tires and a list of things to address for private sale made trading less painful. VW pricing is in mild distress given the diesel scandal. Wife didn't like the BMW ride quality, didn't like me under the car so much. Was thinking of pulling the trigger a couple years from now, but with VW pricing where it was, decided to go for it. 10 years was a decent run on the Bimmer.

The question "Is this for Mom?' is definitely because of those bite-sized rims. Get some proper wheels and tires on there and wait for the compliments to roll in.

thanks. the power to weight ratio and everyday responsiveness is not bad bone stock. The JB1 tune (according to their dynos) would bring it to near GTI levels, at least in terms of power / torque numbers.

Yup those are 15s (!) and though they are better than hubcaps on steelies, they're not real eye-catching and there are limited options in terms of tire sizes /compounds for 15s these days.

Once out of the warranty, it seems like APR is the way to go with 230hp and 280tq vs. JB1's ~200 hp and 230 tq. Last edited by W37V; 08-09-2016 at 04:39 PM.. Reason: Edited numbers to compare WHP |

we do have a vdub dealer who does apr and claims 'they're cool with it' whatever the heck that means. I think there's some caution on threads about 'what can the trans handle' especially the manual...re golfmk7 forum. Not that I would do burnouts ![]() |

Stage 2 is 234 whp. However, the power band on stage 2 is way better than on stage 1. |

congrats, vw turbo 4 are great engine, I used to own one of those, it was first gen stick 1.8t with revo stage 1+cat back.
that little damn thing "felt" much faster then stock 328i, no go after 5.5k though. your newer 1.8tsi still got that old school turbo feel vs 2.0t, which i prefer over newer "twin scroll" style turbo. ![]()
