e90 328i Header Hardware
Hey, I've got a bit of a dumb question. Just bought some AA headers for my 328i. The guy didn't include any gaskets or bolts so I'm in the process of ordering them.
So far I've ordered: (manifold to cylinder head gasket) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...A1WQWE30WZLF0V and as far as I'm aware I can reuse the bolts but not the hex nuts... except what hex nuts should I be using? I'm sure I'm supposed to replace the gaskets that connect to the front pipes, but I'm going to eventually replace the front pipes to ones without resonators so I'm just going to worry about it then. I've also seen a lot about ceramic coating for performance but I'm a cheap bastard. Would it be worth it to wrap the headers instead or am I just throwing more money at them? Thanks for the help I think my only 'real' question is what kind of nut should I be buying, but I figured I'd tell you my plans so someone smart can yell at me if I'm saying something dumb |

I think the AA headers require different nuts. The oem nuts have a flange on them that will not fit into the flange bores on the AA header(maybe). I am sure a quick call to AA will solve your problems. But the oem gaskets at the joints should be fine.

Thanks for the clarification!
When I got mine, I just remember a note that came with it saying not to install until the nuts arrived in a different package. They arrived very shortly after. Maybe backordered or something but wasn't a big deal. I just assumed this was the reason and by the time I did the install(I did ceramic coating anyways, so it was a week or two after) it didn't cross my mind to check. |

Good to hear! I emailed AA asking for a part number/kit sold to me but I suspect that was thrown in the trash
Also is there a cheaper place to get em? I'm not about to blow $30 on nuts edit: found em for $.70 somewhere else. oem too heh |

Okay, am I completely clueless?
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...ud-11127593376 Am I buying 16 of these and 32 of (11-72-1-437-202) HEX NUTs? For some reason I thought I was getting actual bolts. Is there a parts list or something somewhere that'll help me get exactly what I need? |

This is what you get in the AA kit: 16 nuts 4 bolts and nuts 6 exhaust gaskets (not sure if that is proper term - those doughnuts) 2 gaskets (exhaust) that go between headers and exhaust pipe |

I can't find the part number for the bolts ANYWHERE and I've googled everything I can think of. I'm going ahead and ordering 16 m7 hex nuts and reusing the bolts/nuts for the downpipe. I'm giving up on searching, I'm never going to find it and I'm sure I can just reuse it

Here's my receipt when I bought everything to reinstall headers since I had to smog my car, I installed stock headers, smogged, two months later I missed the way my car sounded catless so I reinstalled AA Headers again lol.
Hope this helps with all the part numbers. |

Howdy guys, it's been a while
So I took the old headers off but my problem right now is I have 4 studs with nuts on them soaking in PB blaster. How should I put the studs back on(if I can even get the nuts off)? |

As you can see in one of my pictures, I had the same issue where the stud came out. In that case I didn't replace anything. Didn't even bother removing the old nut. Just screwed the whole thing (the old stud) back in place ( reused it).

I reused the old gaskets because I need a car. I placed an order with a local parts place for em so that should come soon. Finished 2am tonight. I think it took me a total of 8-9 hours. The hard part was putting the new header bolts on. The way the AA headers are shaped made it almost impossible to get the nuts as tight as they should be and i think i stripped one of the threads of the studs on the nut side putting it on. The entire process was very straight forward and I knew exactly what I was doing(rare for me when i work on my car) but it was hard as hell just because of how insane the angles were. I almost don't think I would do it again just because the job was so hard.
Thank ya'll so much for the help. i didn't expect so much good advice |
