Irwindale 3/27 JB2HR
So I went to the 1/8 mile track and raced against my friend who has a Maserati Spyder with like 395 HP so I figured it might be a pretty even matchup, but I knew he was even a worse driver than me.
This was only my second time so I am definitely still learning. My mods are JB2HR, BMS intake, race gas mix to 96 Octane, secondary cat delete and Nitto 555R's in the rear. Anyway, I only got 2 runs. The first one was just like the first time I went, major traction problems even though I did a burnout but I think the tires are still too new and this was the first burnout ever on them. I was spinning hard through 1st and all the way through second so it not only killed my 60' but it ate into my trap as well. RT: 1.137 60' 2.2 330 5.88 1/8 8.737 MPH 87.72 My friend did a 8.89@82.5 Second run I did an even longer burnout (only the second burnout ever on these tires) and got a much better launch, I spun 1st a bit but hooked and didn't spin second at all. I could tell I was getting a much better run and the Maser was way back in the rearview but then in 3rd a couple of hundred feet from the finish line I got a limp. Numbers still came out pretty decent though: RT: .289 60' 1.950 330 5.371 1/8 8.176 MPH 87.85 I was pretty happy considering even with a much better 60' and a limp well before the finish line I was still able to get an 8.1x and faster trap to boot. When I picked up the timeslip the guy said "I have some good news and bad news, you ran an 8.17 but you cant run anymore tonight without a helmet". What sucks is I bought a Helmet last week on ebay but the damn thing hasn't arrived yet So that was it, 2 runs but I am pretty confident the car is capable of better and 7's are definitely not out of the question with a better 60' and no limp. I don't have a code reader so don't know what the limp was but the fact that it was WOT, high RPMs in 3rd gear makes me think it must have been boost related or possibly octane was a little low. It can happen. I was under the recommended octane level, it was warm out (77 or so on the track) and the elevation is 750 ft or so I think. I will get the Octane over 97 next time and try the new Solenoid config. I was really impressed with how the car was pulling and know it would have been a better run without the Limp. I think 7's are definitely in reach.

dude, i was there too but i didn't see any other BMWs there that night! anywho, my best run was 8.505@84.31 (left):
i only got 2 runs too and this was my second of the two. the track was seriously sticky that night. i pulled my all time best 60ft that night (the 1.9...sad i know) and felt that 1.8s were definitely possible if i had another run. nice times! that's a pretty quick 335 you've got there!

def get one on soon.....if your hitting limps w/ 96 octane you must be hitting some pretty damned high boost. There are people on here running 15psi or so on 91 and 93 w/ out limps.
Regardless, good runs!

I agree it is not unheard of to have a limp with JB2HR or JB2HHR. There are reports of them out there. I wouldn't worry about it though. Just get the boost gauge and see what you are hitting. Letting your car rest between runs can reduce the likelihood of a limp. Or, forcing the car to shift just before redline will reduce the likelihood of a limp.
