Glazed, sprinkles, maple? New to me 335d, no spare tire
So, the previous owner got rid of the run flats and put on standard tires and gave me a can of fix a flat and compressor. I do some long distance driving, what kind/size doughnut do I need to toss in the truck since we US 335d peeps don't have a space for a spare?

Seems doughnuts are avail for $235 and $100 for a jack. You all toss them in the truck with a cover is there a better solution?
If one does the SCR delete and the DEF removal (still waiting), will there be a space for a spare in the trunk? There seems to be a black plate in the usual spare tire spot which appears to be bolted down. I haven't pulled it, but heard the def tanks and system is in there. Will there be room for a spare if it is pulled? |

gavronm, is that used parts or a kit from a retailer? Got a link?
I wouldn't use the E60 jack. I would advise using an E70 X5 scissor jack. I got one at local junk yard for $40 if I recall correctly. Not all X5 have this one though. The non scissor jacks are scary business to me. That worth it to get it cheap if car falls due to it tipping over. Others experience might have been better. |

Used parts off ebay. Bought the tire from one guy and the jack, wrench, and wheel chock from another. Spent another $15 or so on a small heavy-duty black canvas duffel bag to keep everything in since the kit I bought didn't have the holder thing.
Can't disagree on the "V-style" jack being a bit sketchy but as long as you understand its limits and work carefully it will be fine. I used it a few times in the garage while swapping between summer/winter tires just to get the hang of it. |

When I was in an E90 I just got a E60 wheel from getbmwparts.com for $60 (36 11 6 758 778). Tire (125 80R17) from tire rack was $120 shipped. $10 craigslist E39 jack (old style non scissors) and wrench. Total cost was under $200.
Watch out for the used donuts. They are usually 10+ years old and dried out. Most BMW's have not come with spares for years. Check the DOT date code to be safe. Last edited by smass; 08-30-2016 at 04:34 PM.. |

Check out tire rack clearance. Been looking for a spare for a while. Found a full sized (nice) front rim on clearance for $90 and a spec tire (non runflat) for another $90 or so...total delivered, mounted to my door was right at $210...... so for the price of a donut I have a practical spare. Added $6.00 of straps from amazon, Harbour freight for a $14 jack and $10 for a tire iron....done
