2017 Jaguar XE - Picking Up Where the 3-Series Fell Off
Yeah... That title caught my eye too! But after reading this in depth article, I would certainly have to agree. Furthermore, the XE is the Best looking car in it's class easily IMHO.

Major kudos for keeping the Nav Screen where it needs to be! Instead of sticking up and out of the dash like an afterthought.

Uh, no. Having the screen up high allows the driver's eyes to be in the line of sight of the road to allow his peripheral vision pick up any sudden movements while being able to focus on the infotainment system simultaneously. Design is one thing (I'm not a fan of the tablet screen either), but the placement is not an afterthought. It's ergonomics. Having a screen down low (a touch screen at that) is asking for an accident.

Just the opposite. Their entire lineup is leaps and bounds better than before!

I want the NAV screen where my eyes are... because those are what I see with. Low down like that is a major step in the wrong direction.

I think the Jag looks Great.
Just needs a couple changes. Full Leather Dash option/ Nav needs a dial selector like the M... Not a touchscreen.. had one before... NEVER AGAIN!! The Rear end could use a beefier exhaust set up... TIPS LOOK WEAK!!! My only real Gripes.. everything else looks pretty Good To me.

I've been really impressed with Jag as of late! I was slightly apprehensive when I dumped my M4 for my F-Type Coupe R, but knock on wood, it still impresses me! The F-Pace and XE further compliment the line. Today's Jag reminds of what BMW used to be when I got my first E46 325Ci (Topaz Blue). I loved that car. That 3er turned me into a BMW Fanboy! IMHO, BMW currently seems to focus more on market share than driver's cars and has lost their way a bit--other than genuine M series. I do miss my F82 at times, but that's b/c I'm so loyal and drink the kool aide. Still got an F15 w/MPPK and MPE in the garage for my wife (but admittedly I preferred our E70 over the F15)

Are you saying it is /has smaller cargo/interior space then a X5? Because the X5 has about the same space as a 5 Series. Which ain't much.

LOL, some ppl stubbornly prefer form over ftn. I'd personally prefer to reduce any accident chances.
Anyway, Jag has been looking quite good w/ their designs but until they come up w/ their own DCT, they still lag in tech just like every other 'Brit' car brand (save for McLaren). ...and that (lack of) trunk space for the F-Type is just utterly pathetic (what do they have under there, another engine???) lol. |

The F type to me is on the top five of the best looking cars today. Someone mentioned that since TATA took over it hasn't been the same. Quite the contrary TATA has poured a lot of money in since and it's a very shrewd company. I've been a loyal BMW person all my life and will still continue to buy them but the F30 will soon be replaced with the F type S AWD next year....

Great car. Needs the R engine, but still a fantastic step in the right direction. Give me one without a stupid nav screen or extra heavy bullshit that I don't need, and we'll talk.
XE-R 6MT RWD is a car I've been looking forward to since it was teased back in 2015. Jag is the only euro brand still making several drivers cars. A little odd that it's Jag, but I'll take it.

Jaguar XE was my top choice at one time but I'm glad I came to my senses and took the 340 instead.. lucky me the Jaguar salemen wouldnt give an inch in negotiations!
The only thing the Jag has over the 3 is the double wishbone front and a great exhaust note on base V6 models. I thought the Jag looked better than the 3 base but not the 3 msport.. I think I was enamoured by the novelty of XE being a "fresh" new look rather than design aesthetics. The electronics trail BMW by alot..the nav sucks compared to iDrive. The XE 340hp engine sounds great with the supercharger whine but I'll take the 340's B58 torque curve over that all day. Ill have to give BMW the reliability nod also.. I know hard to believe huh? If you keep the suspension & exhaust.. give the Jag the B58 engine, the interior fit and finish of a C-class then you may have something there but as it stands.. 340 all the way. |

Meh...
Personally, no wonder a lot of you guys like the way it looks. I see a lot of design notes similar to what an E92 Gran-Coupe' would have been, especially from that rear 3/4 picture. Up front looks like what an E90/F30 in-between would have been, with an Audi grill, instead of twin BMW kidney grilles. It's definitely not bad looking by any means, but nothing earth-shattering for sure. And that interior is BORING! Seriously, compared to the F30, and especially the current C-Class interior, the Jag's interior looks like it was lifted from a Hyundai... And ditto on the Nav-screen. I too am not a fan of the hot-glued tablet look, but I concur with the rest of you, that it needs to be up high in the line of sight. It's probably a good car, and maybe even a hoot to drive, but I doubt the folks in Munich are getting scared... |
