Burger cabin air filters -- or maybe I should say "filter-ettes"

One of the shop mechanics at the club DIY in Annapolis this weekend just bought a 335d (with 190K miles on it!) and installed a set of these cool cabin air filters that weigh almost nothing and get rid of that whole cabin air filter assembly. For $60 a set, can anyone think of a reason not to get these?

10lbs lighter? Boy, I just replaced mine yesterday and I find it hard to believe that the filter and cowl weigh 10 lbs.

Just not sure it's worth $60 when a normal filter is a fraction of that.

Kinda cool though.

That cowl is heavier than it looks. 10lbs easy.

The concern with these is always the same - water getting past the filters and into the cabin. That said, I've never seen a first hand account from someone that installed these and had that issue. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened though.

The cowl does not weigh much this is really more for sound and airflow in the bay.

Ive had my Burger cowl filter for at least 3 yrs now and NO !! no water gets in gavronm and believe me its rains like hell down here in the islands. Your friend might had a bad batch or installed it incorrectly.

No friend of mine complained, I was just pointing out the concern that everyone else raises. Like I said, I've never seen a first hand account of an issue from these.

I remember reading one of your posts on another thread about your install. Did you install these filters and then reinstalled the cowl but without the OEM air filter?

I've had mine since about May 2015, so they have seen an Alberta winter with no problems. The major reason I got them was knowing I would be doing CBU and wanted quicker access.

Lived in Lethbridge for a year, if it can withstand that weather than it must be bulletproof.

Mine have never leaked or had a problem. The amount of hot air that is allowed to flow out the back of the hood is amazing once that cowl assembly is gone. Downside for me was you can hear the injectors really loud, but only at idle.

Still new to the car, what do you do with the cable crossing the engine that is clipped to the HVAC cowl?

Zip tie it to the two strut supports.
