BMWhat App (Carly for Bmw)
I wanted to buy the Carly coder and get the app for my iPhone (ios10). I was wondering if this is a good coder and worth the money plus the price of the app. Anyone purchase this or use it on their car recently?

Using Carly with android and I have the Gen1 and Gen2 OBD adapter. For iPhone your adapter will be WiFi.
Worth every dime. It paid for itself when I had to code brake sensors and battery.

Yes it is a good "coder". Also get their gen 2 wifi dongle.

One of the more salient things about using Carly, is that you can't really "brick" the car or a module with it.
You may make changes that you dislike, but you can always undo them. Carly also forces multiple configuration backups before it lets you make any changes. You can always restore things from those backups. If you are not more deeply technically oriented, Carly permits you to do many (but not all) of the things you can do with more difficult to use coding/configuration software. The Carly WiFi adapter also works with other apps and monitoring programs too, so you get multiple uses from that device. I use other apps with the adapter just to make sure my car will pass an emissions inspection. |

Do you need the Carly-branded adapter? Or will any WiFi OBD dongle work?

I went ahead and bought the Carly adapter to guarantee coding success. I've read that some people have used generic units, but can't use all the features.

I like it. Used it many times. Makes coding many things super easy.

For full potential and no issues, just go with their adapter. It's more expensive, but it works. If you use adapters other than theirs, some features might not be available (i.e. idrive coding, etc.)
