Had exactly the same experience and thought on the weekend.

Also had the same thought about the Jag F type.

even with the new BMWs? I'm sure a m4 would still be under dealer warranty now...

That's pretty normal. They've been around for a while now. The amount of vehicles available for sale used goes up and up as time goes by, until they become more rare, then they drop off again.

A lot of people have a shitload of coin and just buy the latest and greatest brand new when it comes out then get over it after a couple of years and move on to something else.

There are currently 90(!) used M3 and M4's currently for sale that are used and less than 20 months old. That seems to be a huge number.

Car leases generally run for three years, all these cars are less than 2 years old, so its not a lease expiry issue.

AFAIK there is a few small known issues with the S55, but like our N54's they certainly have a few issues also.

I think you're looking into it too much, these cars for sale would be for guys upgrading to the latest and greatest, they could be upgrading to the LCI comp pack M3/4, they could have decided they can longer afford the lease repyaments, relocating O/S etc etc

The M3/4's aren't for sale as there is some inherent issue with them I believe it would be due to the typical aforementioned factors.

Some of these guys could be selling them to get into a M2 which is a similar size to our E92 and by all accounts more fun to drive.

Well, I can give you my opinion after about 8 months of ownership:
1. It does seem more reliable than the N54; especially if you follow the M4 boards, there's not too many issues that come up.
2. It's a very noisy car in the cabin - it's got very little in terms of noise isolation for such a new car. This is by design. It provides the driver with a very connected to the road feel (other than the steering). This could be an issue why people are changing. It might be too raw for them, especially if they drive a lot on crappy roads.
3. Inconsistent power and hard sometimes to get the power down. It generates a lot of power sometimes, but on other settings, it can be less than a 335 or 340. Getting the power down is often a challenge, but always fun.
The way it lights up the rear tyres is very different to the 335.

I went from a 94 911 into BMW's about 15 years ago and this M4 is the most like the 74 911, as it is the least refined and most raw.

For people who like refinement and speed, the M4 might not be for them.

I drove an M4 with DP's and a JB4 on Map7.. On cold tires the car is useless and the rims and tires were upgraded. boost hits quick and the dct is shifting so fast that it keeps the engine right in peak torque which keep the tires spinning. I like it can, get loose quickly

The overall economy is down at the moment and you will probably find that people are starting to feel the pinch so are selling items that will free up their cashflow, hence more of these comming onto the market.

good question

I will say that I was so excited to buy the m4 when it can to the showrooms and was the first customer to go for a test drive by myself. After 5 min of driving i felt that it drove like a 335 m-sport on steroids. The steering numb and it felt like a video game.

I then drove a 2015 911 and I felt like I was driving a executive car, it was fun but it felt like a executive car.

the only car that puts a smile on my face every time is my 15 boxster gts and my 05 m3.

I have 4 friends that bought the m4 in past 2 years and all 4 of them sold them after 9 months because the car has no "soul" or character, it is just a point and shoot car which can get boring.
I have not driven the e92 m3 yet which I think would be an awesome daily driver like my e46 m3
thanks for looking..
