Custom Exhaust Rasp - HELP!
I have a 2008 E90 335XI.
Here is a background of what I have done to the exhaust. I have been through 5 stages of exhausts. I am EXHAUSTED (pun intended) of not having it sound the way I want. I will list the stage of the exhaust and what was wrong with it. 1.) completely stock I wanted downpipes and a tune and I wanted the car to be loud 2.) Cat-less VRSF Downpipes installed - Straight piped the rest of the car with exhaust shops own piping The car was wayy to loud - it sounded like the worlds worst trumpet player while on the highway - constantly around 2300-3k RPMS. People were staring at me like I had 3 heads. it sounded amazing when I would creep around town (sounded like a big diesel truck) and after 3k RPMS it got quiet and sounded good too. 3.)Added Magnaflow Mufflers This was fine - had this for a while but this wasn't as loud as I wanted it to be. The mufflers quieted everything up a lot. 4.) Muffler delete and added an X-pipe (same exact setup as a friend - he had an E92 and it sounded awesome. Set-up was almost identical - both had VRSF cat less downpipes, muffler delete.) This reminded me too much of setup 2 around 2300-3k RPMS and I was embarrssed to drive it. Other than that small section of RPM- i LOVED the way the car sounded. It sounded like a GTR after 3k RPM. 5.) Added 2 - Vibrant 1792 Bottle Style Resonator where the mufflers would normally be. Took away 50% of rasp but still not happy with sound. How can I get rid of the 2-3K RPM rasp?! Why does it make that sound? I have spent $2,000 on trying to make it sound how I want, please help. Thank you!!! VIDEO of Current Set Up Here ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dLf...ature=youtu.be

I try not to be the guy who says it, mainly bc I don't want it (due to pricing), but if you're looking for a whole new set up, I would go with the PE. I'm not gonna spiel about how it's the best blah blah blah, just a suggestion based on the amount of money you spent already. If you're looking for a solution to your custom exhaust set up, I don't have one, sorry :

My favorite setup i've heard is, catless dp, pe mod exhaust and 1792 in place of secondaries. Deep sound with a little rasp up top, found a few videos from psmitty's old setup. Just imagine it paired with the burble tune

That is what my car sounded like with the straight pipe to magnaflows, it wasn't loud enough for me.

I'm afraid the PE exhaust won't be loud enough for my liking, I'm starting to think it is so raspy because of cheap piping from the custom exhaust shop.

Well, if you can ever get a hold of some HPF exhausts..........That should solve your problem of being 'not loud enough'. As for the rasp, I think it's more so the CL DPs that you have paired up with the exhaust setup.......

Yup, I have rasp even with stock exhaust and catless dp's. It's the thin metal most are made of, and having an auto it sits in the raspy rpm range often. It sounds like you have no secondary cats, that's the difference between your setup and an e92 with carless dp's and a muffler delete

haha so it sounds like its just the way it is. Looks like Ill have to just go single turbo : P. Its unfortunate because I put the Vibrant resonators where the PE mod mufflers would go...sigh, it never ends haha. Thanks for all the help guys.
