Please help with my lighting/ bulb issues

Update: No longer need help. Had to get an indy to do the low beam bulb as I didn't have the tools or space to DIY.

________________________

I've got two lights out and I'm feeling overwhelmed as I have never touched lighting issues before and want to do this myself. I have a pre-LCI e93 (I assume is same as e92 lights).

From the pics showing what's out, do I need:
-DS1 bulb
-H8 bulb

And for the DS1 bulb, I install it from in front of the tire?
And for the H8, I just open the hood?

I'm aware it could be the ballast but I think I'm going to take the risk that it's the bulb and try that first.

Any other advice?

Heya Tara, the small inner ring, that's your H8, and that gives you the DRL error. That's what happened with mine, "DRL error" lit up, went to check, one dead bulb. It's fiddly but plug and play. Open the hood, unclip the protective plastic panel on top of the headlights, reach in, twist something like a quarter of a circle, and then pull the connector out with the bulb attached. Unclip the bulb, put in a new H8, pop it back in, twist the other way to lock.
I said fiddly, as in get ready to drop curses on German engineers wholesale.

Big outer ring, best to let someone else take the floor, as I can't speak from experience.

One thing though, your lights are proper white, that doesn't look like original bulbs, do you have a LED kit in there?

Ok thanks so much for your help!
Yeah I had the angel eyes installed before and it was done for me.

In that case you can't simply replace the H8, typical angel eyes kits replace the halogen H8 with a LED equivalent. We'd need to check what kit you installed to see what's it made of.

As for the big bulb, I hate to bring the bad news but...

Having said that, if both failures happened at the same time, it might be an electrical issue as opposed to a bulbic/bulbish/bulboïd problem.

They happened about two weeks apart.

Here's a link to the Lux angel eyes install guide for the e92 and e93, so it is the same system indeed. Saying that the fuse panel behind the glovebox would be different, if only because of the electrical roof etc. We shouldn't assume they'll be a perfect match (just in case you need to poke around in there).

This shows how to access the H8 setup. Don't overestimate the stengh of those plastic covers on top of the lights, I remember clearly hurting one of the little tabs without even applying that much force.

Good news though right? Better than two different lights on two different sides popping out at the same time.

Now if your angel eyes are still under warranty, then it's a good time to give the seller a call

Ok thanks! That's very helpful. I am confident now that I can handle this part.
But removing the tire for the other one... I don't know

Yeah no miracles there, either you have the equipment and place to do it or you're a bit stuck. Best of luck to you either way, I have zero doubt in your ability to sort this out

Don't mention it, I always feel like I'm the one getting help and not giving any, it's nice to be able to if not help, at least try to. Plus I owe you one actually I sent a mail to some folks in Germany doing amazing vinyls and asked them if they could cut me a smaller quantity. And I mailed them a link to your trim wrap DIY to see if their vinyl would be up to the job They've yet to reply tho...

Ho Tara one thing and that's important. If you're going to handle bulb replacements, don't touch the bulbs. Halogen and similar bulbs should not come into contact with bare skin, finger grease and dust will dramatically increase the chances of your bulb dying prematurely. Use thin gloves or a dry cloth.
