Possible move but need advice
So I've been out to Cali (OC and SD) multiple times, and every time I go I get more and more tempted to move there.
Now my question.... I've just started my first term of acupuncture school which is 3 1/2 years long. I have looked and they have acupuncture schools there as well. So would it be wise to transfer (hoping that my credits transfer) or suck it up and wait until I finish? My licensing here in FL would be accepted in CA as well when I graduate. |

I did some research the licensing fee doesn't seem to be much of a difference. Maybe $50 difference at most. As far as malpractice fees with acupuncture it's relatively low roughly $2-3k. |

Yes I agree there are a lot of things I need to consider compared to living in FL. Something about being out there just always draws my attention.

The cost to live in most of OC has gone crazy.
You're lucky to get 1100 sq ft home for half a million unless there's high HOA or land lease. Rent isn't far behind; likely close to $3,000 a month for the same sq ft. SD isn't much better. People are relocating from socal to NV, TX, and AZ like crazy. Sometimes I think about buying a mansion in NC instead of living in my peanut here.

Long term FL resident and have spent many years working for company based in LA, so much time on the west coast. The short version, I really like to visit over there, but I'm staying in FL.
As for anything school or class credit related you really need to check with any school you consider transferring to- nobody else can tell you if the credits will be accepted. And as always be wary of any private & for profit school- you don't want to get stuck in an ITT Tech situation.

To me the pros far outweighed the cons. I've been looking for a change from Fl for years and I had traveled often to socal for work. I really enjoy it, there are mountains (big plus for the wife and I), there are seasons (at a mile and above of elevation there are winters in socal) and most importantly it's not fl.
Seriously the cost difference was more than made up by a new job. I'm saving on rent, insurance and enjoying some of the best views ever....plus I've put literally 1000's of miles on my car driving some of the best roads I've ever experienced in just a few short months, very happy with the change. |

That's what Cali tried to tell me when I relocated from Chicago. It didn't work for them either.

I moved almost 10 years ago from SoCal (Los Angeles area) to Boca Raton, FL. Live in Aventura now which is closer to Miami, and while I like it here (I love Aventura), LA is still home to this day.
That being said, I don't regret moving out here. I wanted to experience living in another city and got what I wanted. I think it can be a good experience especially if you're not tied down with kids/wife/etc to do that while you can. If you end up not liking it you can always move back or go somewhere else. I can't speak for the job prospects in your field, of course. It does help to have money if you live anywhere in SoCal, although SoFla is not much different. It is probably more of a shock coming from Tampa if you've never lived in SoFla. Weigh in the various pros and cons for you... factor in experience/adventure, taxes, job prospects, hobbies and activities you like to do, etc. For example beaches, SCUBA, boating, and water-related sports are better in Florida in general, whereas in California you have amazing skiing, mountain hiking, canyon roads to drive or ride motorcycles, etc. Cali still has beaches of course but that is one thing FL definitely has a handle on better than Cali. And so on. When in doubt I always err on the side of adventure |
