Offset/Spacer Q on 18" CSL wheels

Hey all. I know I posted this question within another post, but I think that it will get lost. I have received help from Ron at **********s on this topic, but I am also worried about the issue a year ago with putting 10 and 12 mm spacers on the BMW. If this issue did not exist, i would probably just go for the 12mm spacers.

I know that VMR has a 33 offset in the works, but when I called yesterday, i was pretty much told to check back in a month or so. Unfortunately, I am planning on buying a set soon to put on summer tires next week.

So I am planning on the non-M3 set-up (40 offset front, 45 offset rear) in the staggered VMR CSL/VB3 set. That makes the rear 18 x 9.5 et 45. I will be running 255 width for now, then 265 with replacements. I am also planning on 15 mm spacers in the rear. This makes the et 30, and pushes the tire 20 mm out from stock (according to the calculator at the top of the page).

Will I get rubbing on my E90 Sport, with the 18 x 9.5 on 265 tires, with a 15 mm spacer?

Thanks in advance.

You should be fine on the E90 which has more room in the rear than the E92.

I just ordered a set of 12mm spacers. I spoke with another member with the same setup, but with 15mm, and he rubs with passengers.

I drive to NJ with a full car about once a month. I would hate to have rubbing going 100 mph down the highway.

You can get away with 15 but 12 is a safe bet so you should be good to go

Thanks. Now, I will be running 255 width tires on the 9.5 width wheel, until I need replacement (currently 8K miles).

Does anyone make RFTs in 265/35/18? I cannot find it anywhere, and I am not sure about the jump to 275s in the rear....

Have you considered 19"s? VMR has VB3 (CSL rep) or V714 wheels with the correct offset for your car. The V714 would look very nice with Montego

Yeah, going with 18" rims while in Boston for a few reasons:
1. Potholes - already ruined two sets of RFTs with the lousy roads, so the extra rubber will help reduce chance of destroying the rims.
2. Reuse the factory 18" tires - they are in good condition, 8K miles, so it would be a waste to dump them.
3. Better ride comfort - I have a 7 month old, and the car is technically my wife's daily driver, for now (I live 1 mile from my job, so I bike everyday).
4. Money - 19's would require a big chunk of change for the rims ($1000) and tires ($2000), since I would get run-flats. For my purposes, the reliability of RFTs outweighs the improved performance of regular performance tires.

Mind you, I am moving to Chicago in the New Year, and I will have much more $$$ to play with, since I graduate my fellowship in October (my wife is picking out her Cayenne GTS or X6...). So, at that point, I will probably pick out a new set of 19-20" rims.

Advance congrats on the move to Chicago & your graduation!

For your current situation, I would just wait until you guys are settled in Chicago and stick with the stock ZSP wheel/tire you have for now. It saves you $$$ by not buying an 18" set now and then 19" set later.

If you're looking for a 19" set with runflats, BMW Performance makes a nice set http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=5707 - all you have to do is install them!

I know. I just really do not like the ZSP 18" rims - they have been relegated to winter tire/parallel parking status. I love the CSL rims, and have been looking forward to them since buying the car.

As for the next set, the BMW performance are really nice, but I like the 18" M3 rims and the MORR VS7/VS8 the most. Or a set of BBS RS-GT or RGR...
